During 2006, Italy was the main supplier ot these products, followed by Brazil, China, Turkey, India and Spain. If we analyze it further, we will find that Brazil was the leader in granite exports, Italy in marble and Turkey in traventine stones.

In that same period, Peruvian exports of natural stones to the American market surpassed US$28 million, which represented an increase of 25% in reference to the previous year. However, Peru ranks 11th in top suppliers of these products to the United States, covering only 0.9% of the total American demand. Thus, there is clearly a high potential for Peruvian exports to increase.

About market preferences, a study made by Stone World magazine shows that final consumers prefer neutral tones for marble stone or traventine. Three quarters of total importers and distributors in the United States said that yellow/gold and green were the most popular colors among their clients.

A good starting point to get to the American market of natural stones would be to visit related trade fairs. Hence it would be very useful to visit Covering in Chicago (from 17th to 20th of April) and Surfaces, which takes place every February in Los Angeles.
