After more than four years since we started negotiations for an FTA with the United States, it will take next February the 1st, with the entry into force of this trade agreement. In the region, only two countries have FTAs with the U.S., Chile and now, Peru. So, given that investment opportunities are better in Peru than in Chile, we must build on this agreement.
More than 6,200 tariff will enter this market with immediate relief. This means the opening of a market that is permanent and will allow us to create jobs in times of difficulty, as the current international crisis.
With the FTA is fully consolidated profits for our products under the ATPDEA. But also extended to products such as cotton fiber, preparations based on pork (ham, sausages, etc.), evaporated milk, cheese, sugar, among others.
Thus, with an immediate relief of 0% tariff, may enter the U.S. market 6,289 tariff Peruvian. Around 98% of Peruvian exports to the U.S. come with tax deductible, and for imports from the U.S. will be 90%. In addition to the machinery and equipment, have 0% tariff on imports of vehicles such as vans, trucks and buses, at first, because the rest of vehicles it can be deducted over a period of five years. The consumer will have the opportunity to purchase electronic equipment, electrical equipment and information technology at a lower price. Thus, it will also remove tariffs on certain inputs to the food industry. Clearly, the income of American products to Peru will benefit all Peruvian people.
Peru now has a big trade advantage over other countries. Similarly, the trade agreement requires the Peruvian Government to have more rules involving more fair, and provide better services to citizens.
Moreover, to reap the benefits of FTA, we must develop more efficiently and effectively the technical aspects so that domestic producers may be in a position that requires the U.S. market.
In general, the FTA leads us to face new challenges that have to do with competitiveness, improving quality of products entering the U.S. market, with the search for opportunities under the present circumstances, among others aspects to consider.
