Now that the sun is back in Lima (even if it is only temporary) you might feel a greater need to just step out from home and enjoy the city! If you do not yet have plans for Saturday, August 29, we recommend that you join Rotary's fundraising lunch for the "Caravan of Happiness" at the Sachun restaurant in Miraflores, near the beach.
For 26 years now, members of the Rotary Club of Monterrico Surco have

been organizing what they call "the Caravan of Happiness" for low-income seniors of Lima and its surrounding areas. It was originally tagged as a "caravan" because club members drove the elderly from their homes to the events, thus creating a caravan. This year, 300-350 elderly are expected to attend, so transport by buses seems to be a more practical solution.
The "Caravan of Happiness" has become a daylong event aimed to give the participating seniors their best day of the year. The program starts with a guided visit through the Parque de la Amistad, continues with a luncheon filled with show elements and ends with the receiving of gifts such as clothes, grooming supplies, or nonperishable food. In the mean time participants may take advantage of the medical and primping (such as hairdressing and manicuring) services offered free of charge.
Donations of any useful items, such as toiletries, personal care items, board or card games, crosswords as well as clothing and shoes will be utmost appreciated. (For more information about donating, please contact Karina Montes at kmontes84@hotmail.com.)
Saturday's lunch is aimed to raise the necessary resources for the organization of the Caravan of Happiness, planned to take place on the 27th of September. If you join us, your S/. 35 lunch will not only give your family a nice time but it will also bring the sun into the lives of 300 or more poor senior citizens.
For reservations you may contact the Sachun restaurant: Av Del Ejército 657, Miraflores. Tel: 441-0123 or 441-4465
