Many people believe that diplomats’ spouses enjoy a life of sipping wine, eating delicious lunches, drinking tea, and participating in receptions when they are not out shopping.
Perhaps a few generally fit that description, but definitely not all of them.
And especially not here in Peru, where those I know work every single day to make a difference.

One of the great jobs that diplomats’ spouses here in Peru are organizing is called “Ayuda con Amor.” This event raises money every year to help the less fortunate in this beautiful country. So far this year, “Ayuda con Amor” has donated US$ 51,000 to critical projects like assisting centers of abused women, children in need, feeding programs and centers of support for the abandoned elderly.
Friday evening, October 30, was no exception. Around 700 friends of “Ayuda con Amor” donated $90 per person to participate in this year’s “Masquerade” held at the Brazilian embassy in Miraflores. The surroundings were extravagant, with lots of flowers, candles, people in beautiful costumes, and the famous Joselito and his orchestra played all night long.
The evening was a huge success. I’m sure the woman who organized this year’s event will be just as successful next year. Congratulations!
Enjoy the pictures from this year’s party and prepare yourself for next year. Perhaps you will want to participate in this incredible event as well!
