Dave Bonnett Here.# Kinohi Nishikawa says :
I just wanted to add to Bill's story how we came to the decision to study the Pink Dolphins from Dawn III. In reading Bill's description of the boat, we noted that he had made special provisions to allow extended operation without any on-board machinery running. This coupled with the fact that Bill has extensive experience in cruising to remote areas in the upper Amazon where we knew there were Dolphin convinced us to undertake the trip. Our decision was one of the best we have ever made. Bill and his crew and the Dawn III exceeded all our expectations. The boat was very quiet, which is a rare thing on the river, with generators, fans, pumps and engines usually going continuously, On past trips into the Pacaya, we had to use small boats to get far from the mother ship and into quiet. We could only hope to have the outboards off for short periods. On Dawn III we remained on this elagantly comfortable boat and were surrounded by the jungle sounds and were able to record many individual underwater sounds without being corrupted by man made noise for many hours at a time. The fact that Bill had the foresight to build a truely quite vessel enriched our experience considerably and allowed us to acquire scientifically significant data on Inia Geoffrensis, a Threatend Species which is poorly understood. We are planning another trip on Dawn III in 2008. Anyone desiring to truely experience the full impact of Amazonas without man made interference would do well to book a trip on Bill's magnificent ship.

What a wonderful adventure you all had. Thanks for sharing it with us. As for the wood in the dolphin's beak, perhaps he was signaling that he was ready for more? ;-)# Brent Russell says :
For Christmas I got my Girlfriend a trip to Peru to see these pink dolphins. I booked the flights and now I am trying to find out where to travel to see them and who can take me to them. I have seen tours for $1500 a person and it is seven days long. I am looking for something that last a day or 2 at most. Can you give me any hints as to where I should start? I am comming into Lima on March 22nd.# Dave Aabo says :

If you are on a budget (Everyone just said "Thats me") then Iquitos Peru is probably your best option. Taxis are cheap and so is the food. I saw Many Many pink dolphins with http://www.dawnontheamazon.com We did not book anything online. We just emailed them and he gave us directions to a hotel that was not even a block away from the water and right next to his business. For about $200 Me and my gilfriend went ut on a boat and saw the pink dolphins jumping out of the water and surfacing where 2 rivers colide. We also went through the jungle and saw monkeys, ant eaters and much more.
