Coffee growers worldwide will meet in Costa Rica

(LIP-wb) -- More than 300 producers, dealers and consumers of coffee worldwide will meet in Costa Rica next week to participate in 20th International Week of Coffee (Sintercafé) to discuss and analyze the future of this industry.

Representatives from Central America, the U.S.A., Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Holland, United Kingdom, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Japan and South Africa, will try to locate the challenges the coffee industry faces in the next 20 years, said Carlos Alfaro, president of Sintercafé, on Monday in a press conference.

Alfaro advanced that this year's meeting, held from November 11-15 in a hotel on the outskirts of San Jose, will not present a featured country this year. “The idea is to have a retrospective vision this year because it is the event's twentieth anniversay. We want to reflect the last twenty years of our industry and look ahead to the next twenty years”, he said.

Guests will be able to visit different nearby coffee plantations, the production process, and the certification programs, according to Adolpho Lizano, assistant director of the Costa Rican Coffee Institute (Icafé).

Alfaro emphasized that at the moment the coffee business, in spite of its characteristic volatility, experiences a phase of stability, with suitable prices.
