Exports made easy

How to help Small Businesses take the great leap into foreign markets? Through “Exporta Fácil”. This initiative, implemented thanks to good coordination between the private and public sector, simplifies redtape at customs procedures. Hence, now it is even possible to send merchandise to other markets from home or office thanks to the Internet and the joint work that the Customs Administration Authority (SUNAT) along with other exports promotion organisations have been doing. Exporta Fácil not only allows a lower tariff, but offers a simple export procedure through the website of SUNAT. That is why Exporta Fácil is expected to increase the small and micro enterprises’ (SME) sales to foreign markets by 20%. This service allows exporting goods for a maximum value of US$2,000 per declaration, but with maximum weight of 30 kg per package.
Nowadays the main destination market for Peruvian SME is the United States. However, through Exporta Fácil the goal is to effectively reach other markets such as Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico and Venezuela. According to SUNAT, between July and December of last year, the number of export operations increased 441% due to Exporta Fácil and in terms of value grew more than 1000%.
Nevertheless, there are some goods which are forbidden to be exported through this procedure, although there is no specific ruling. Among these goods we can find those referred to cultural heritage, guns, animals in danger of extinction and drugs.
Also, products in their natural state such as mahogany, cedar, camu camu and cat’s claw. But there are some products which are restricted to be exported, but if permission and specific certifications are obtained, then the export procedure can be allowed. In this case we can find goods such as cultural heritage replicas, animals and plants in danger of extinction, minor cetacean, rainbowfish eggs, some pharmaceutical products, some cosmetic products and some plaguicides used for public health among others.
Therefore, we can now rely on Exporta Fácil to effectively start exporting to foreign markets. It is up to us then to use it properly.
