Judith Westphalen in Miraflores - Exhibition

The Municipality of Miraflores and its Culture department proudly inaugurated, on the 28th of June, the two renovated art galleries Luis Miró Quesada Garland and Raúl Porras Barrenechea, now perfectly adapted to receive all kinds of art events and exhibitions.
To celebrate the occasion, the Municipality chose to show a retrospection of the artwork of Judith Westphalen (Catacaos, 1922- Roma 1976), a talented and self-taught painter, married to the well-known Peruvian poet Emilio Adolfo Westphalen.
Her paintings, drawings, engravings and notes all reflect her technical mastery in monotype, geometrical cuts, ink and pencil drawings. The exhibition displays the different steps of her artistic evolution, largely influenced by her visits to New York, Florence, Rome and Lima.
However, the exhibition goes further by offering more than 120 art pieces, as well as documents on her life, books and interesting critics, exposing a bit about the her relationship with the poet.
“Each new artistic experience leaves me more and more convinced that the expressive power of shapes and colors is endless, and it makes me understand that freedom is an essential factor in the creative process. There is nothing more heart-warming for an artist, given the hard time that humanity is going through, than knowing that, by choosing their own shapes and colors, they choose to follow their own spiritual necessity, their own imagination, moved by the desire to find a new language which could allow him to express himself and make obvious his condition of a sensible person who, physically and morally, is part of reality, contemplates it, observes it and is capable of creating new images that always make sense”, said Judith Westphalen in 1968 concerning her artwork.
With this re-opening exhibition, the Municipality hopes to reach a large public. The new managing team, composed of Emilio Tarazona, Sharon Lerner, Miguel López, Rubén Ramos, Rafael Bellido and directed by the curator Rodrigo Quijano –recently in charge of the Oficina de Artes Plásticas del Centro Cultural Ricardo Palma de la Municipalidad de Miraflores-, wants to give a new dynamism to the galleries.
The exhibition was produced with the help of the “Centro Cultural Peruano Norteamericano de Arequipa”. It will then be transferred to the “White City” of Arequipa.

Vito Loli - Exhibition

Vito Loli is the grand nephew of renowned French artist Paul Gauguin. Loli is a self-trained artist who knows how to effectively blend various techniques and materials to portrait his passion for nature and the female body.
Most of his artwork integrates these two passions, accomplishing images that are very personal and provocative.

Through his artwork, the artist tries to share his introspective voyage, using nature as a metaphor.

Hansel and Gretel (German: Hänsel und Gretel, pronounced "Hensel") is a fairy tale of Germanic origin, adapted by the Brothers Grimm.
Hansel and Gretel are the children of a poor wood cutter. Fearing starvation, the wood cutter's wife convinces him to lead the children into the forest and abandon them there. Hansel and Gretel hear her plan and gather white pebbles to leave themselves a trail home. After their return, their mother again convinces the wood cutter to abandon them; this time however, they can only leave a trail of bread crumbs. Unfortunately, animals eat them and Hansel and Gretel become lost.
Alone in the middle of the forest, they finally find a house made of gingerbread and candy and the hungry children begin to eat. The old woman living in the house invites them in and prepares a feast for them. However, she is a witch who built the house to entice children so that they may

The result is magnificent. Its raw and acoustic but at the same time electronic. Dark but soulful, deep and haunting at times. Killer dub bass lines with thumping cajon, quijada and conga percussions, layered with 100 year old slavery chants, emotive vocals, and sweet guitars.
