Peruvian Paso Horse Show and Gala

The Peruvian Paso Horse Show and Gala "Luz y Sonido", now in its 6th year, will feature scenes detailing the history of the Peruvian Paso horse, the melding of Spanish and Peruvian culture, as well as a focus on other Peruvian regions through song, dance and much more. The Peruvian Paso horse is known as one of South America's best kept secrets. The first people to introduce the horse to the Americas were the Spaniards. Christopher Columbus brought the first horses, which were used to start the first breeding operation, to the island of Santo Domingo. The most outstanding breed at the time was the Andalusian, which became the foundation for the Peruvian Paso.

Al Pie del Tamesis - Theater

A Peruvian man and woman chat in London, a city famous for its ghosts. During their conversation, in which they remember the good and bad moments of the past 35 years, many ghosts appear, and both their lives begin to reveal secrets as in a detective story. This meeting allows them, and perhaps their audience, to discover who they are.

Free Party-Rave Documentary Screening

The Centro Cultural Ricardo Palma will feature a collection of three documentaries on the Free Part-Rave movement of the 1980's. The result of this movement was the New Age tendency, "squatters" and followers of Rave parties. The documentaries include: "23 Minutes Warning", "Mission to India" and "African Expedisound".

Fame, the musical

Fame is a musical full of emotions: happiness, tragedies, romantic frustrations, strength and support. A group of students arrive at a school of dramatic arts to make their dreams come true and achieve fame. Eventually they realize that the road to fame isn't an easy one... The show features actors Yvonne Frayssinet, Reynaldo Arenas, Teddy Guzman, Juan Pablo Lostannau and Vannesa Zambrano among many others. Don't miss this musical which is for anyone who has fought hard for a dream.

Sin Lugar a Sueños – Dance

This contemporary dance performance takes a look at the reality of abandoned and marginalized children in Lima. Brazilian writer Jorge Amado’s book “Capitanes de la arena” (Captains of the sand) served as a base for this story, and were translated into dance by young choreographer/dancer Willy Hernandez. The show is performed by first-rate dancers, including two dancers of the National Ballet, and is supported by video and music.

Urbe – Exhibition

Artist Giuseppe Mendiola takes a complez look at Peru’s capital in “Urbe”, his fifth individual exhibition. This perspective shows Lima as a cloudless and chaotic city, Lima from the inside. This is not a stranger’s vision, or that of someone who knows Lima only by night, it’s the view of someone who has lived its changes, its smell, taste and sweat, the view of someone who has worn the city’s skin.

Estrella Salvaje – Dance and Theater

After six years living in France, the recognized Peruvian choreographer and dancer Karin Elmore returns to present “Estrella Salvaje” (Wild Star), a show about pleasure and power for bodies, voices and electrical appliances. In it, she combines dance, theater and visual arts with the sounds of day-to-day domestic life and a woman’s universe. This performance brings together women of different experiences, generations and cultures, reflecting on how woman are positioned esthetically, ethically and politically within our society.

"Museo Travesti del Peru" – Book Presentation and Performance Festival

Giuseppe Campuzano presents his new book “Museo Travesti del Perú” (Transvestite Museum of Peru) and with it, transvestites of the past and present will transform the Centro Cultural de España into a living museum with various visual techniques. A performance festival, movies and conferences will also take place to tell the history of transvestites in Peru, from the pre-Incan times to the present day.

Mona a la Medida - Exhibition

“Mona a la medida” is an exhibition by plastic artist Hernán Sosa. For this display, Sosa took as his inspiration the famous "La Gioconda" painting by Leonardo Da Vinci during the Renaissance period. Also known as the "Mona Lisa", the painting is known for its mysteries, such as: who was model, the ambiguity on her face, the landscape in the background, and ultimately, the technique used in creating the piece. With "Mona a la Medida" Sosa delves into those mysteries.

Never Endings - Exhibition

The Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI) presents "Never Endings": an exhibition by contemporary artist Cornelia Parker of Cheshire, England. The display features close to 30 pieces in formats such as photography, video, sculpture and installations. "Never Endings" deals with "the study of objects and phenomenons that are out of reach of human control." Parker takes everyday objects and transforms them into extraordinary products in this exhibition.

Territorios - Exhibition

Ivana Ferrer presents her third individual exhibition, "Territorios" (territories), at the Galería Lucía de la Puente. This time, "Ivana takes food images as pretext and presents them as a series of maps that show the process of drawing which results in a painting. The artist uses the term "territorio" not only as the physical place a person owns, but also personal space, such as ideas, emotions, etc; a world that is intangible."

Chimoc, the hairless dog – Children’s Theater

The Centro Cultural de la Católica presents the musical “Chimoc, the hairless dog”, based on Claudia and Andrea Paz’s children’s book which tells the story of a hairless Peruvian dog who is ashamed of being different. Chimoc tries to hide using a superheroe outfit, until one day an annoying flea forces him to take it off, beginning new adventures and discoveries. Throughout the story, Chimoc learns to love himself the way he is, teaching children the importance of friendship and self-esteem.

De bajo de la piel - Exhibition

After five years, Clo de la Puente presents her third individual exhibition titled "De bajo de la piel" (Under the skin). The show features paintings and drawings, based on long sessions with models. This exhibition shows de la Puente's true intention in terms of the two mediums she utilizes to display "that other skin we have which we keep to ourselves."

Cuidad Muerta - Exhibition

Lima, like other contemporary cities, finds itself in a constant state of change. The fragmented city, with its accelerated growth and disorder, its growing demographic (almost 9 million residents), its distinct landscapes, its constant transformation and its history, is the basis of the exhibition "Cuidad Muerta" (Dead City). The collective show features the works of artists José Ignacio Lora Iturburu, Miguel Ángel Alfaro, Rolando Sánchez Ponce, Albert García Gonzáles and Diana Trigueros Cisneros.

El Ultimo Ensayo - Show

Yuyachkani, a quechua word which means "I'm thinking, I'm remembering" is the name the internationally-recognized Peruvian theater group. They will present "El Ultimo Ensayo", which deals with a group of artists who unite to honor a classic artist who has triumphed world wide through their music from Peru. The story shows the groups' relationships, their conflicting visions of Peru and a taste of the human condition.

Diego y Frida, una sonrisa a mitad del camino - Exhibition

The Municipality of Lima, in co-production with the Mexican Embassy, has the privilege to present "Diego y Frida, una sonrisa a mitad del camino". The photography exhibit displays the matrimonial union of the two most recognized Mexican painters of the XX century, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. Pieces by artists Guillermo Kahlo, Peter Jules, Guillermo Zamora and Juan Guzmán are featured, as well photographs by friends Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Nicholas Murria and Eduard Weston.

Si no existe el más alla... - Exhibition

The Galería Enlace Arte Contemporáneo presents, "Si no existe el más alla, la injusticia del pobre se prolonga enternamente" a photography exhibition by the MR group. The group, formed by Peruvian photographer Marina García Burgos, presents 16 color photographs that touch on themes of social injustice and racism in this country. The group "placed the victim of racism in the 'exclusive' space reserved for the racist."

Chau Misterix - Theater

Set in a suburb in the 50’s, two girls and two boys entering puberty begin to live their first adult experiences, with their passions, pain, and the inevitable contact with betrayal that destroys their paradise. 10-year-old Ruben is very curious about the world around him, but sometimes his parents and friends can't satisfy his demands. Ruben finds refuge in imagining that he is Misterix, a superhero, and through him he can imagine that he in handsome, tall and strong, that women adore him, and of course, that he doesn't need those stupid glasses. However, in growing up, Ruben will soon have to accept reality, and say goodbye to Misterix, and the omnipotence that came with him, forever.

Edipo Rey – Theater

Director Mateo Chiarella’s adaptation of “Oedipus Rex” returns to the stage after participating in the International Theater Festival of Puerto Montt and going on a short tour in the south of Chile. This unique take on Sophocles’ classic drama shows us Oedipus’ difficulties through four “punk” youths, demonstrating the impossibility of being able to control power.

Lajos D’Ebneth - Exhibition

The British-Peruvian Cultural Center presents a two-part exhibition of Lajos d’Ébneth’s work, a Dutch-Hungarian artist who migrated to Peru in 1949. This versatile artist’s work shows complete mastery of various techniques. Much of his work is still preserved in Chaclacayo, where he designed his house under Bauhaus principles, while the rest of his pieces are in museums around the world.

Don Quijote - Ballet

The Municipal Ballet of Lima is proud to present their version of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra's classic tale, "Don Quijote". The story features protagonist, Alonso Quixano, who names himself "Don Quijote" after reading one too many tales of chivalry. He dives into a fantasy world, where he as convinced himself that he is a knight. Together with his friend and squire Sancho Panza, they set out on an adventure to find Don Quijote's love, the "Dulcinea", a fair maiden in his eyes, but a farmgirl in real life.

Desapego - Exhibition

The Gallery 80m² arte&debates in Barranco presents "Desapego", an exhibit by Roy Keitel. This is Keitel's second solo exhibition, who studied at the School of Art in Munich, Germany. Roy's works in this presentation take a look at the human condition in societies which are driven by a sense of detachment.

Dos x Uno - Show

El invariable entusiasmo de Sísifo- Exhibition

The Raul Porras Barrenechea gallery of the Centro Cultural Ricardo Palma presents "El invariable entusiasmo de Sísifo", an exhibition by Janine Soenens. The display includes pieces that are of medium scale, installations and videos. In Greek, "Sísifo" is the name of someone who angered the gods because of their extraordinary shrewdness. The gods punished them by giving them a task that represented vainness; they didn't believe there was a worse quality than that. This inspired the exhibition.

Fernando Bedoya - Exhibition

Peruvian artist Fernando Bedoya will present his latest exhibit at the Luis Miro Quesada Garland Gallery. The display will feature distinct aspects of his work of the last few years, as well as pieces he's done since 1985. Part of the exhibition will feature the piece titled "clase VE/Obra abierta", which was done in collaboration with Alfredo Marquez, Miguel Lescano, Marcel Velachaga and Guillermo Bolañas.

Lado B - Exhibition

The Galería 80m2 de arte y debates presents "Lado B" (b-side), by Diego Molina, Eliana Otta, Hemilio Vargas and Juan Diego Vergara. The exhibition is a result of various group sessions of work. In the end, the work produced, like the b-side of a cassette, was not the group's "hits" but more of examples of the tests, enthusiasm and intuitions felt during the creation process. The works use cardboard and paper, and feature themes related to fashion, music and daily life in Lima.

Toqapu - Exhibition

Toqapus were geometric designs that formed a square, which were thought to create a written system during the Inca culture. "Toqapu for me became a celebration commemorating 10 years of my relationship with jute and with 1000 kilometers of dyed and painted threads, caressed between my fingers." - Artist Pancho Basurco

Pinocho - Theater for children

An old man named Gepetto creates a wooden puppet called Pinocchio, and wishes he would have life. His fairy godmother decides to grant his wish, but leaves him in his wooden body, assigning Jiminy Cricket as his conscience. Unfortunately, Pinocchio doesn't listen to him and gets into trouble because he wants to become a real boy. This classic tale comes to life on stage to entertain the entire family.

Cazadores de Sombras – Photography exhibition

16 Spanish artists will show us the uncertainty of urban landscapes, the unthinkable reconstruction of a physical space, the mystery of night, portraits of faces with closed eyes, and shadows that register the unimaginable. These images, which show us an aspect of contemporary Spanish photography, have been chosen because of their ability to evoke uncertainty. Before coming to Lima, this exhibition participated in the 2007 International Photographic Summit in Bogota.

Nostalgias Imperiales – Exhibition

In this exhibition, Diego Gianella’s intention is to look at engraving from an unconventional perspective, relating it to binding, installations, literature and alternative printing techniques. The exhibition will be centered around the presentation of the artistic book “Nostalgias Imperiales”, which won the first book contest organized by the literature magazine Dedo Critico, the Centro Cultural de España and the NGO Runa.

Exposicion de XXXII Salon de Grabado - Exhibition

ICPNA has been holding the “Salón Nacional de Grabado” contest since 1966, one of the most important engraving competitions in our country. This year’s winners and participants will exhibit their artwork in ICPNA’s Juan Pardo Heeren Gallery. The first prize went unanimously to 23-year-old Luis Antonio Torres Villar of Huancayo, who won with two xylographies where he pays homage to the people of his community.

Hansel and Gretel - Theater for Children

Hansel and Gretel are the children of a poor lumberjack. Afraid of hunger, their stepmother convinces their father to take them into the woods and abandon them. Hearing her plan, the chidren collect little white pebbles and leave a path to guide them home. Once they return, their stepmother sends them back into the woods, but this time, they only have breadcrumbs to leave behind. The forest animals eat these and Hansel and Gretel lose their way. How will they get back home?

Aladdin and the Magic Lamp - Theater for children

Aladdin was raised among tramps in Agrabah, he is a daring guy that pulls occasional stunts to survive, and sometimes he steals to buy his food. Despite that, he has a generous heart and is willing to put himself in danger to save his beloved Jasmine. His life will take a big turn when he finds a genie in a lamp.

Homenaje a Hilario Mendivil – Art Exhibition

The National Cultural Institute presents an exhibit in honor of Hilario Mendivil, a symbol of traditional Andean imagery, 30 years after his death.
