International Dance Day – 20th Celebration

International Dance Day, established in 1982 by UNESCO’s Dance Committee, is celebrated on April 29th around the world. ICPNA presents its 20th celebration with a series of performances, conferences, videos and other activities related to this universal art form. The celebration will include participations by dance schools, professional contemporary dance groups, theater dance groups, urban dance groups, etc.

Goodbye Cinema – Exhibition

Artist Diego Lama presents his fourth individual exhibition, takes a bold and original look at the reciprocal relationship between cinematography and plastic arts. He approaches this analogy through photography and video art, both of which use cinema as a medium and a cultural experience, defying its formal aspects and subverting its traditional interpretations.

Hombres, Perros y Gatos - Exhibition

Peruvian artist Manuel Lau, who currently resides in Canada, presents a playful vision about coexistence, multiculturalism and life. In these pieces, created between 2006 and 2007 in the Circulaire Workshop in Montreal, men, dogs and cats, mix and play in a state of passiveness and movement. Iconography from the Peruvian rainforest are also incorporated in these images.

The History of Railways in Peru - Exhibition

The Universidad Católica's Cultural Center presents Peru’s railway history through 100 photographs of locomotives and coaches belonging to historian Elio Galessio. The history of Peru’s railways includes over 75 railroads, of which only 6 are still functioning. The exhibition will include guided visits, a conference, old movies, videos, maps, old books and miniature trains, aiming to revalue Peru’s industrial archaeology and cultural heritage.

"Ego – Tik" - 3rd UCSUR Festival of International Theater

The 3rd Universidad Científica del Sur (UCSUR) Festival of International Theater, "Por la Diversidad Cultural" (For Cultural Diversity), will take place the week of April 20 - 26 at theaters around the city. Countries participating in the festival include: Spain, Lithuania, Italy, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru.

Today's play, "Ego – Tik", is brought to you by the group Ertza, which is based in Spain. Writer and director Asier Zabaleta brings us this story "which tries to look further than one's own ego and look at the person; to look with a critical eye at those moments which we don't look further than our own bellybuttons. EGO-tik tries to look at our flaws, fears and other defects but in a way of search for something deeper..."

"Strazdas" (Thrush) - 3rd UCSUR Festival of International Theater

The 3rd Universidad Científica del Sur (UCSUR) Festival of International Theater, "Por la Diversidad Cultural" (For Cultural Diversity), will take place the week of April 20 - 26 at theaters around the city. Today's plays, "Strazdas" (Thrush), is brought to you by Rokiskis People's Theater who are based in Rokiskis city, Lithuania. The show is based on 14 poems by Sigitas Geda and deals with the life of preacher and poet Antanas Strazdas. The play deals with the importance of searching for ourselves and about the eternal battle between good and evil.

Hall of Peruvian Silver in Surco

The Patronato Plata del Perú proudly presents the opening of the Salón de la Platería Peruana en Surco (Hall of Peruvian Silver in Surco). The objective of this institution is to increase the use of silver in Peru and spread the work done by Peruvian silver artists and artisans. The hall features a selection 36 beautiful pieces of contemporary silver, which have traveled the world in other exhibitions held in Argentina, China, Finland and Spain, to name a few.

Nueve Visiones

The Sala de Arte Felipe Cossío del Pomar in San Isidro will host the exhibition "Nueve Visiones" (Nine Visions), which will feature pieces by nine Peruvian artists. Those who will have works displayed are: Elke McDonald, Patricia Orbegoso, Mariana Riveros, Ana Teresa Barbosa, José Gómez, Hernán Sosa, Joseph Firbas, Jhonny Morote and Fernando Guembes. This collection is part of an international-exchange the artists have coordinated with art galleries in Texas, U.S.

Tribute to César Vallejo - Exhibition

Plastic artist Orlando Izquierdo, also known as "El Tigrillo", will present his latest exhibit at the Centro Cultural de San Marcos. The exhibition, "Homenaje a César Vallejo por los 75 años de su muerte", is a tribute to the renowned Peruvian poet César Vallejo. Izquierdo, a native of Moyobamba, presents 50 paintings which represent scenes in Vallejo's life.

Pintura - Exhibtion

Artist Denise Mulanovich brings her latest exhibition, "Pintura" to the Galeria Forum in Miraflores this month. Mirko Lauer describes the pieces featured in this display as "an expression of the happiness of living in shadows... texture which now functions as more than a witness to human drama than a neutral background."

Rosalindo Palomino - Concert

Soprano Rosalinda Palomino will offer a recital in which she will interpret arias of composers such as Bach, Gluck, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelsson, Strauss, Gounod, Puccini and Falla, among others. Palomino has sung with master Andrés Santa María in the National Music Conservatory, where she received her title. Last year she was the singing master of the National Chorus of Children in Peru.

Inmigrantes - Exhibition

Peruvian painter Oswaldo Higuchi, who has had many individual exhibitions in Peru, Chile, Uruguay, Japan and Canada--brings his latest display to the Centro Cultural Peruano Japonés. Higuchi: "To be an immigrant is to be free, is to see new horizons, is to move with the wind, to confront the unknown... it is to live."

La Tierra Vista desde el Cielo - Exhibition

This exhibition, by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, proposes a rapprochement of the different problems related with sustainable development. More than an exhibition of beautiful images, it's the state of places in our world, with pedagogical elements to help us understand and preserve earth. "La Tierra Vista desde el Cielo" features 120 aerial photographs which represent a balance of the planet during the beginning of the new millennium.

Hablapalabra - Storytelling and music

If you’re looking for entertainment this summer without having to leave Lima, don’t miss the new event Hablapalabra, a show of storytelling, music and other arts. This three-month event will feature guests from Colombia, Venezuela, USA, amongst others, and is a wonderful way to have fun while enjoying a few drinks with friends.

Urbe – Exhibition

Artist Giuseppe Mendiola takes a complez look at Peru’s capital in “Urbe”, his fifth individual exhibition. This perspective shows Lima as a cloudless and chaotic city, Lima from the inside. This is not a stranger’s vision, or that of someone who knows Lima only by night, it’s the view of someone who has lived its changes, its smell, taste and sweat, the view of someone who has worn the city’s skin.

Mona a la Medida - Exhibition

“Mona a la medida” is an exhibition by plastic artist Hernán Sosa. For this display, Sosa took as his inspiration the famous "La Gioconda" painting by Leonardo Da Vinci during the Renaissance period. Also known as the "Mona Lisa", the painting is known for its mysteries, such as: who was model, the ambiguity on her face, the landscape in the background, and ultimately, the technique used in creating the piece. With "Mona a la Medida" Sosa delves into those mysteries.

Italian Engravings Collection - Exhibition

After 15 years, the public will once again be able to see this collection of Italian engravings at the Museo de Arte Italiano. The exhibition features pieces from the most prominent representatives in this field from the years 1905 until 2003. In 1991, the museum made the decision to store the fragile pieces for fear of light, humidity and acidic materials ruining the engravings. They've decided to bring them out again for one month only.

Territorios - Exhibition

Ivana Ferrer presents her third individual exhibition, "Territorios" (territories), at the Galería Lucía de la Puente. This time, "Ivana takes food images as pretext and presents them as a series of maps that show the process of drawing which results in a painting. The artist uses the term "territorio" not only as the physical place a person owns, but also personal space, such as ideas, emotions, etc; a world that is intangible."

De bajo de la piel - Exhibition

After five years, Clo de la Puente presents her 13th individual exhibition titled "De bajo de la piel" (Under the skin). The show features paintings and drawings, based on long sessions with models. This exhibition shows de la Puente's true intention in terms of the two mediums she utilizes to display "that other skin we have which we keep to ourselves."

National Ballet - Show

The Grand Theater of the National University of Engineering presents a spectacular show encompassing classical dance of a distinct Argentine genre that is recognized world wide. "Al estilo de Piazzolla" and "¿Tango?" will be performed by the National Ballet with the help of choreographers Gina Natteri and Yvonne von Mollendorff.

Tejidos y Fulgores - Exhibition

What Lorena Pestana--architect by profession, designer by vocation--presents in this small exhibit, represents her vision and experience in art, contemporary design, as well as iconography and traditional techniques. Her creative adventures in jewelry-making began in the community of Alto Marañón and from their she continued her explorations which ultimately led to this exhibition, "Tejidos y Fulgores".

Diego y Frida, una sonrisa a mitad del camino - Exhibition

The Municipality of Lima, in co-production with the Mexican Embassy, has the privilege to present "Diego y Frida, una sonrisa a mitad del camino". The photography exhibit displays the matrimonial union of the two most recognized Mexican painters of the XX century, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. Pieces by artists Guillermo Kahlo, Peter Jules, Guillermo Zamora and Juan Guzmán are featured, as well photographs by friends Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Nicholas Murria and Eduard Weston.

Si no existe el más alla... - Exhibition

The Galería Enlace Arte Contemporáneo presents, "Si no existe el más alla, la injusticia del pobre se prolonga enternamente" a photography exhibition by the MR group. The group, formed by Peruvian photographer Marina García Burgos, presents 16 color photographs that touch on themes of social injustice and racism in this country. The group "placed the victim of racism in the 'exclusive' space reserved for the racist."

Lika Mutal and Gam Klutier - Exhibition

Lika Mutal and Gam Klutier, outstading Dutch artists living in Peru, will present an exhibition of their best works as one of the cultural activities programmed for the EU-LAC Summit to be held in Peru. Lika Mutal’s "Pulso de la Montaña", is made up of twelve sculptures made in various types of stone. Gam Klutier will present “Señales de Luz” with large paintings in acrylic.

White Lion - Concert

Heavy metal band White Lion will make a stop in Lima at Discoteca Vocé during their South American tour this year. The band, which formed in 1983 by Mike Tramp (vocals) and Vito Bratta, announced their return during the end of 2007 to the delight of many fans. Their comeback is marked by the launch of their new album "Return of the Pride", which is on sale now.

Cazadores de Sombras – Photography exhibition

16 Spanish artists will show us the uncertainty of urban landscapes, the unthinkable reconstruction of a physical space, the mystery of night, portraits of faces with closed eyes, and shadows that register the unimaginable. These images, which show us an aspect of contemporary Spanish photography, have been chosen because of their ability to evoke uncertainty. Before coming to Lima, this exhibition participated in the 2007 International Photographic Summit in Bogota.
