Noche en Blanco in Lima

A tradition that started in France and has spread to cities such as Madrid, Rome and São Paulo, finally makes its way to Lima. "Noche en Blanco" (White Night) is an all-night cultural festival in which public buildings, parks and museums in Miraflores will be transformed into a works of art. Lima's version, titled "DELIVERI: las políticas del intercambio", will bathe our recognized Miraforina buildings in colored lights; objects will be installed in open spaces to surprise the public; experimental music will be played; there will be a parade in "homage to the potato" and much more. Stay up and experience "Noche en Blanco"!

Lamanta - Concert

This Friday, Peruvian rock band Lamanta, as well as guest band Polaroid, will perform at Mochileros Bar. Lamanta is made up of Ignacio Graña (bass), Carlos Hidalgo (guitar), Daniel Vilchez (percussion) and Gonzalo Dávila (vocals).

Peruanos y peruanas como tu – Photography Exhibition

“Peruanos y peruanas como tú” (Peruvians like you) presents a series of photographs portraying people in various jobs or activities typical of Lima (taxi driver, combi singer, maids, etc.). These images show us the resources people have had to use in order to get through difficult economic times. The photographs will be accompanied by a video that begins a dialogue through the images. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Cecilia Podestá, creator of the exhibition, will be there to print out the photographs that the audience choose.

Belinda Tami - Art Exhibition

After two years in Europe, Belinda Tami has returned to Lima to present a year and a half’s worth of work. These 18 large format paintings, where she begins to incorporate grays, whites and yellows into her palate, demonstrate the maturity of the techniques she’s been exploring these past years.

La Papa - Exhibition

This exhibition presents the winning pieces of the Visual Arts Competition organized to commemorate the International Year of the Potato. This will include the two winning works, “My fair Lady Huamantanga (Naturaleza muerta)” an installation by Giuliana Migliori and “El cuarto del rescate” by artists Maria Teresa Ascoy, Jorge Polar and Guillermo Quiroz, as well as the pieces that obtained honorary mentions. These pieces were chosen out of 126 works to pay tribute to the potato, Peru’s emblematic tuber, one of the eight most important on the planet.

Tener Lugar [Experiencia, acontecimiento, posibilidad] - Exhibition

The Centro Fundación Telefónica and Museo de Arte de Lima present the exhibition "Tener Lugar [Experiencia, acontecimiento, posibilidad]". It will unite 30 Peruvian, contemporary art pieces from the mid 1990's. The project seeks to bring up questions such as: "What standards should be put into action to understand works of art?", "Can you define recent artistic pieces?", and others which have always surrounded modern art. Featured artists include Gilda Mantilla, Fernando Bryce, José Carlos Martina and Elena Tejana, among others.

Naturaleza - Exhibition

Bar Coco de Mer in Miraflores plays host to "Naturaleza": an exhibition by Grupo Flujo which has a theme related to the ideas and experiences of each of the invited artists. Themes include life and death and human nature. The invited artists include Paulina Chirif, Renzo Giraldo, Jaime Romero, Mariana Tschudi and Rocío Rodrigo, among others.

El Ojo de la Puerta (Peephole) - Exhibition

Jorge Vera's "El Ojo de la Puerta (Peephole)" is a voyeuristic journey through a night of debacle on South Beach, Florida. The exhibition features black and white photographs which were shot on Halloween Eve, October 31, 2001, on Miami's ultra-hip Lincoln Road, using a special "peephole" lens.

Improv Match 2008

Six years ago, Pataclaun, under the direction of July Naters, started the practice of Improvisation Match. Starting May 9, Two teams of actors-players will go head to head in "Improv Match 2008": a comedic improvisational battle in which the audience will decide which team comes out on top.

Marta Minujin - Exhibition

Argentine artist Marta Minujin presents her latest exhibition at Enlace Arte Contemporáneo Gallery. Considered one of the pioneers of Pop Art, Minujin, a versatile artist, has worked with sculpture, installations, performance art and more. This exhibition will feature 13 bronze sculptures, as well as some objects all using recyclable material. Minujin has had exhibitions in Spain, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and now bring her works to Lima.

La firma de Apeles - Exhibtion

Plastic artist Nader Barhumi presents "La firma de Apeles", an exhibition featuring a selection of the artist's drawings, collages and mixed pieces in a medium format. Student of the Art Department of the Universidad Católica, Barhumi uses Apeles, one of the most recognized painters of ancient Greece, as his inspiration in this solo exhibition.

José Tola - Exhibition

José Tola is one of Peru's most important visual artists and will present his latest exhibition at Galería Lucia de la Puente, with a selection of his prior works also on display. El clima cambia, mi vida también - Exhibition

“El clima cambia, mi vida también” is the name of the photography exhibit that shows the changes in the environment and how it's starting to affect the lives of many Peruvians, through 30 photographs and testimonies. "The journey has allowed me to see that the change in environment is a reality in Peru. However, it's important that we learn from the residents, who are the nucleus of this exhibition, and how they adapt their lifestyles against the negative and positive affects." - Photographer Thomas Mueller.

Misericordia - Theater

One day after the tragic terrorist attacks of September 11th, Ben is in his lover, Abby’s, apartment. On TV the images of the chaotic day play over and over, as Ben avoids answering his wife’s insistent cell phone calls, while Abby complains about his lack of sensitivity towards the terrorist attacks. Ben finds an opportunity in this chaos: creating a new identity and running away with his lover. While the people in the city try to escape a tragedy, Ben wants to run from responsibility, and Abby tries to escape her need to be loved.

Iconos - Exhibition

The word “icon” was traditionally the name used to designate worshipped images in the Christian church. However, through time and with the help of media, its original meaning has radically changed, to now include “heroes” of all sorts: those who struggle with repressive battles against everything that can be considered an excess in the epic existence of postmodern men and women, such as Amy Winehouse, Pete Doherty, Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. This collective exhibition includes works by Carlos Basadre, Piero Quijano, Cherman, Jaime Higa, Magaly Sánchez, Claudia Coca, Haroldo Higa and Jaime Romero.

Digitart: Porta-retratos de la Vida Urbana - Exhibition

"Digitart: Porta-retratos de la Vida Urbana" is the new exhibition presented at the Galería Municipal de Arte Pancho Fierro in central Lima. In it, artist Joseph De Utia relates the everyday urban theme in a world that is becoming more globalized and interconnected. The 25 pieces, all realized through different and diverse techniques, describe this theme through showing public personalities in politics, journalists, models, poets, singers and more.

La Joven Gráfica Polaca - Exhibition

"La Joven Gráfica Polaca" is an exhibition most representative of contemporary Polish graphic design. The style, which is considered one of the most creative in Europe, will bring together 17 pieces from young artists such as Joanna Malecka,  Viola Tycz, Lucas Cywicki, Andrzej Hoffman, Moniak Krzyzanowska, Tomasz Daniel, Artur Widurski, Anna Sadowska and Danuta Gibka among others. It reflects the talent of the new generation of artists in Poland.

Quobo: Art in Berlin 1989-1999 - Exhibition

"Quobo: Arte en Berlín 1989-1999" is the Museo de Arte de Lima 's (MALI) next exhibition which features works from 14 artists from a generation that transformed social and artistic standards in Germany. The exhibition, which is one of the largest ever dedicated to German art in Peru, has been shown in countries such as China, Mexico, Bulgaria, New Zealand and now it's finally reached Peru.

Gasas y Reticulados Chancay - Exhibition

The Centro Cultural Britanico presents the exhibition "Gasas y Reticulados Chancay", a collection from the Museo Amano. The pieces featured are from the Chancay civilization of Peru which existed from 1200 - 1470 d.c. in the Chancay Valley, north of Lima. They specialized in textiles, as evident by the works in this collection.

Goodbye Cinema – Exhibition

Artist Diego Lama presents his fourth individual exhibition, takes a bold and original look at the reciprocal relationship between cinematography and plastic arts. Hombres, Perros y Gatos - Exhibition

Peruvian artist Manuel Lau, who currently resides in Canada, presents a playful vision about coexistence, multiculturalism and life. In these pieces, created between 2006 and 2007 in the Circulaire Workshop in Montreal, men, dogs and cats, mix and play in a state of passiveness and movement. Iconography from the Peruvian rainforest are also incorporated in these images.

The Lieutenant of Inishmore - Theater

Larcomar's Teatro La Plaza ISIL is proud to present Martin McDonagh's "The Lieutenant of Inishmore". The black comedy tells the story of an Irish National Liberation Army enforcer, violent and who shows no mercy, except to his little black cat called Wee Thomas - the only thing in this world which he loves. The cast features Rodrigo Sánchez Patiño, Alfonso Santistevan, Rómulo Assereto, Gisela Ponce de León, Mario Velásquez, Daniel Neuman, Gerardo García and Laszlo Kovacs.

Hall of Peruvian Silver in Surco

The Patronato Plata del Perú proudly presents the opening of the Salón de la Platería Peruana en Surco (Hall of Peruvian Silver in Surco). The objective of this institution is to increase the use of silver in Peru and spread the work done by Peruvian silver artists and artisans. The hall features a selection 36 beautiful pieces of contemporary silver, which have traveled the world in other exhibitions held in Argentina, China, Finland and Spain, to name a few.

Insumisión - Exhibition

Herbert Rodriguez's individual exhibition "Insumisión" unites pieces of his collection which continue to reflect the relationship between art and society in the 80's. This exhibition, by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, proposes a rapprochement of the different problems related with sustainable development. "La Tierra Vista desde el Cielo" features 120 aerial photographs which represent a balance of the planet during the beginning of the new millennium.

Never Endings - Exhibition

The Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI) presents "Never Endings": an exhibition by contemporary artist Cornelia Parker of Cheshire, England. The display features close to 30 pieces in formats such as photography, video, sculpture and installations. "Never Endings" deals with "the study of objects and phenomenons that are out of reach of human control." Parker takes everyday objects and transforms them into extraordinary products in this exhibition.

El Ultimo Ensayo - Show

Yuyachkani, a quechua word which means "I'm thinking, I'm remembering" is the name the internationally-recognized Peruvian theater group. They will present "El Ultimo Ensayo", which deals with a group of artists who unite to honor a classic artist who has triumphed world wide through their music from Peru. The story shows the groups' relationships, their conflicting visions of Peru and a taste of the human condition.

Lika Mutal and Gam Klutier - Exhibition

Lika Mutal and Gam Klutier, outstading Dutch artists living in Peru, will present an exhibition of their best works as one of the cultural activities programmed for the EU-LAC Summit to be held in Peru. Lika Mutal’s "Pulso de la Montaña", is made up of twelve sculptures made in various types of stone. Gam Klutier will present “Señales de Luz” with large paintings in acrylic.

Narices y Calzones - Theater

Since their last show, "Las Marías" have gotten new jobs, new boyfriends, have broken up with them, moved, been on diets, and gone on with their lives. Now they are back with their new show "Narices y Calzones", where they show us their neurotic and explosive side. They've faced vertigo and have given into their fears and secret pleasures. Proceeds from this event go to "Bola Roja", a group of clowns who visit sick children in hospitals.
