Juan Diego Florez- Concert

The greatest tenor of Peruvian lyrics, Juan Diego Florez, is back! He will be offering the audience a special and unique night, which expects to gather over 15 thousand people!! For this special night, the artist requested the participation of other great Peruvian talents such as Gianmarco Zigñago, Pedro Suarez-Vertiz and Magaly Solier. All of them will be accompanied by Lima's Symphonic Orchestra, under the direction of the Spanish master, Alvaro Albiach. It's a unique show that you can't miss!!

Proud of Being Peruvian - Exhibition

This colorful exhibition focuses mainly on the clothing of folklore artists who have been innovative by including national symbols in their attire. This shows the feeling of identity with the country that these artists, as well as the people who make the dresses and the audience that attends their concerts have. The weavers who made the dresses will also participate in this event showing their designs together with the objects that inspired them. Additionally, there is a sample of archaeological pieces that appear as well in the garments, joining our past with our present. The exposition has five parts: Our identity as Peruvians, the artists and their attire, the weavers in their workshops, our historic patrimony and finally, national heroes and symbols.

Transiciones - Colectivo Creativo, Proyecto Foto Perú

Celebrating the VII Edition of the International Photography Festival 2009, MIRAFOTO, the exposition Transiciones (Transitions) will be opening this Tuesday November 10th. Photographers such as Paola Silva, Rolando Nakamine and Pelusa Estremadoyro are some of the 12 that will participate. The pictures express experiences in times of big changes brought by technology; they have great individual style. Do not miss this wonderful exhibition.

BIOPODER: Latin American Artists - Art Exhibition

The VI International Photography Festival “Mirafoto” presents the art exhibition “Biopoder” (Biopower). The term “biopower” refers to the different practices of control over the body and life that political entities such as the Government exert. Lately, there has been a change in the way people see the body, its physical constitution and its possibilities of transformation in a context of social and cultural changes. Technology, mass communication, consumption culture and the redistribution of power roles define new conceptions and forms of corporality. The opening will be this Thursday November 12th at 7:30pm.

The Little Tin Soldier - Ballet

The National Ballet School presents The Little Tin Soldier with music by Debussy. This ambitious production that gathers around 100 artists on stage lasts about an hour and is divided into two acts. The story, as many may know, features a tin soldier who falls in love with a beautiful ballerina who had already given her heart to the evil troll. The show, like the one in 1996, is directed by Gina Natteri and the cast is made up of students, teachers and graduates of the National Ballet School. Don’t miss this wonderful production!

"Horizons With no Memories" by the Plastic Artist Rember Yahuarcani

Rember Yahuarcani, a young artist from the Huitoto culture in the Amazon, has become well known not only in our country but also abroad. He did not take any sort of art lessons; he taught himself and his work has evolved with time. This exhibition submerges us into a magical world where we will learn what the feminine presence means in his culture. Women give life but also maintain it and guarantee its continuity. To the artist, this showing is not about myths, history and traditions but about characters under a different light: his own, with movements and shapes from the Amazon that do not necessarily have a historic base in the Huitoto culture. "Image – Identity – Transformation" by Four Ecuadorian Artists

Jorge Velarde, Patricio Palomeque, Wilson Paccha and Roberto Jaramillo are four important plastic artists of Ecuador who will inaugurate “Image – Identity – Transformation”. These four artists will be present during the opening to show their work which evokes reflection about oneself and our surroundings as well as the human group, society, personal identity, interior and collective change. It is about conflict and contradiction and the search for one’s own individuality.

XXI European Film Festival

The members of the European Union, the European Commission Delegation and the Film Library of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru present the XXI European Film Festival. This year, there will be exhibitions of films from Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Finland, Sweden, the UK and Switzerland as a guest country. "Museum Treasures" - Exhibition

For the X Meet for the Promotion and Diffusion of Intangible Heritage of the Iberoamerican Countries, the Museum of Popular Art and Tradition of the Institute Riva Agüero of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú will celebrate its 30th anniversary with the exhibition “Museum Treasures” (Tesoros de Museo). There will be fourteen rooms showing part of the museum’s collection gathered in these 30 years. The actual collection is made up of approximately 10,000 pieces made of different materials and coming from different places. This is an exhibition you cannot miss.
The opening will be Monday 9th November at 7:30pm and it will remain open until April of next year.

Huellas del Viento - Photography Exhibition

Huellas del Viento (Footsteps of the Wind) is a photography exhibition by 22-year old photographer Ignacio Cateriano Rostworowski, organized as part of the Festival Mirafoto 09. His images have captured the playful manner in which the wind shapes the world around us, showing beautiful and misterious figures of the Peruvian desert. Also, in past years, Cateriano's photographs have been published in several magazines of the written media, such as National Geographic (USA) and Horizonte Geográfico (Brasil).

Don Juan Tenorio - Theater

Don Juan Tenorio, the mythical character, famous for his love affairs and the confrontations with his rivals, and featured in the most celebrated plays of Spanish writer Jose Zorrilla, reappears in Lima at the Museum Cemetery Presbítero Maestro. The play includes the participation of actors Ofelia Lazo, Fernando Petong, José Luis Ruiz, Mónica Domínguez, Víctor Prada, Patricia Biffi, Héctor Rodríguez and Kike Casterot, and live music directed Rodrigo Raez.

Te Cuento Un Cuento Blancanieves - Children's Theater

Te Cuento Un Cuento Blancanieves (I'll Tell You A Story Snow White) is a show by AMG Teatro, full of music, games and color, in which the protagonists, Tito, Azul and Celeste, three teenagers, get together one day and agree to tell the story of Snow White. The three of them look for costumes, props, and invite children from the audience to participate - a performance very enjoyable for every child!

In Vírgenes Urbanas (Urban Virgins), artist Ana Orbegoso has combined colonial paintings from Cuzco with elements of contemporary urban life, creating a singular effect that highlights the true value of Peruvian women today. Orbegoso's photographs find a balance in the fusion of the traditional Andean culture and the modern, urban reality. The exhibition is part of the festival Mirafoto 09.

La Destrucción Del Olvido - Photography Exhibition

As part of the festival Mirafoto, ICPNA invites you to La Destrucción del Olvido (The Destruction of Oblivion), an exhibition that gathers some of the most significant photographs of Peruvian history. These photographs were all taken by Estudio Courret Hermanos back in the period of 1863 - 1935, in Lima, and are mostly traditional portraits of Limenian families. The exhibition interestingly portrays the singularity of post-colonial Peruvian society and contrasts it to the way it embraced the influence of European cultures.

En El Tiempo De Las Diosas - Exhibition

El Sueño de la Verdad - Photography Exhibition

El Sueño de la Verdad (A Dream of Truth) is a photography exhibition with the work of Werner Bischof, the Swedish photographer whose images were published in some of the most important magazines worldwide - Du, Paris Match, Life, The Observer, and Picture Post. Interestingly, this exhibition has been designed for specially for South America, and as part of the festival Mirafoto. Displays include some of Bischof's first photographs, a series of unique pictures of Switzerland and post-war Europe, and his work as a journalist photographer.

El Show de Kiko

The recognized Mexican artist Carlos Villagran, best know by everyone as "kiko" is coming to Peru as part of his farewell tour! It's a unique opportunity to see the great kiko, who has made us laugh for 4 generations at the great TV comedy show "El Chavo del 8".

Margarita- Theater

Enjoy this great comedy written in verse, directed by Nicolás Yerovi. In the year 1822 in the district of Pueblo Libre, Lima, a young woman named Margarita is in loved. However, her aunt will arrange a marriage against her will, doing whatever it takes to stop Margarita's love, causing the most hilarious situations. The play will take place around the district itself, giving the audience the opportunity to experience a little bit of everything: history, music, dance, tourism, drama and comedy. It will also count with a cast of 17 actors and 9 musicians that will perform live. It's a great opportunity to know a little bit more of the city and enjoy yourself!

Caricias- Theater

Caricias (Caress) involves a round of characters that seek desperately for love and affection, because they just don't know how to do it. They're clumsy or have no attitude or knowledge to find it. They get tangled in a series of relationships that end up in bad breakups, instead of getting what they want: to ask for a caress or to caress the other.

Senda de Oro - Art Exhibition

Senda de Oro (Golden Pathway) is an art exhibition by Cuco Morales, a very respected Peruvian painter concerned with representing the beauty of nature in his creations. Here, the artist has worked with acrylics on canvas, combining them with copper and bronce dust to create a unique effect. His paintings are mostly done in warm colors in order to emphasize the overall message of his exhibition - the golden pathway.

Inventario - Art Exhibition

A very interesting artistic proposal, Inventario (Inventory) is an painting exhibition that gathers the most significant work of five artists from Trujillo: Oscar Alarcón, Juan Carlos Alvarado, Juan Chávez, Manolo Rodríguez and Silvia and Jean Paul Zelada. The artists have found their inspiration in the simple, ordinary objects and places of everyday life, and have chosen to represent them as though they were distantly contemplating them.

María Julia y el Árbol Gallinero- Children's Theater

The play tells the story of Maria Julia and her pet: a black hen who wants to be a mother. Maria Julia won't stop until she fulfills her pets wishes, getting into a number of adventures trying to find her a rooster. On the play, Maria Julia has a sister who helps her through rough times. It's a great play for kids between the ages of 3-12, that surprises and amuses them, teaching them about the fights between siblings and the search for creative solutions, the importance of tolerance, respect and liberty.

Escultura de Árbol y Arte Itinerante- Recycled Materials Sculpture

As part of the festival Amo Amazonía, the artist Francisco Burga will intervene at the Parque de la Amistad with a 5-meter wide sculpture made of recycled metal and plastic bottles as well as messages of kids from Lima and the communities of Puerto Firmeza, ANIA, Colegio André Malraux, Mukmu and Puckllay in the rainforest.

VIII Encuentro de Patrimonio Inmaterial - Cultural Event

The VIII Encuentro de Patrimonio Inmaterial, organized by the Instituto Nacional de Cultura (National Institute for Culture) gathers the participation of fourteen different Spanish American countries - Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Brasil, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Haiti, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela. Each delegation will share their countries' most significant cultural aspects, ranging from music and gastronomy to poetry and typical dresses to art and dance. The event will be filled with exhibitions, parades, fairs, workshops and much, much more!

Póster: Revirtiendo el Ícono - Exhibition

Póster: Revirtiendo el Ícono (Poster: Reverting the Icon) is an exhibition which displays the extremes to which the human need for role models in a consumerist society move people to admire and elevate ordinary images to the status of universal icons. The artists have chosen to work with posters because of their particular significance as key elements in propaganda, such that they can confront the spectator by sarcastically showing human fanatism and people's desperate need for idealized models.

La Noche de los Asesinos (The Night of the Murderers) is a thriller that tells the story of three brothers, Lalo, Cuca and Beba. They are involved in a forbidden and dangerous game: the illogical transformation of the house they live in and the possible representation of their parents murder. A psychotic game that shows how the brothers are incapable of making life decisions, and how they are the representation of the things they criticize the most.

Oscilando Como El Paisaje - Art Exhibition

Oscilando Como El Paisaje (Oscillating Like The Landscape) is artist Carolina Kecskemethy's 7th individual exhibition. Her work here consists of great wall murals in which she combines landscape paintings and digital drawings with floral and erotic motifs, and focuses poetically on time, travel and the landscape. All of the exhibits intertwine among themselves to transmit different aspects of Kecskemethy's message.

El Deseo y el Vértigo (Desire and Vertigo) is Fernando Taboada's latest exhibition, in which the artist presents paintings, drawings and collages inspired upon the human eyes and body. His works consist of contrasts, traces of the human figure, and geometrical shapes - namely, the search for duality.

Tú Eres Piedra - Art Exhibition

Fernando Jara is a self-taught artist who has worked and lived in Germany, New York and the Peruvian Andes. To many, it seems that time stops in every one of de la Jara's creations, transmitting an atmosphere full of awe and emotion. In this exhibition, his work combines light, paintings and drawings on smooth, rocky surfaces.

Backstage - Photography Exhibition

In Backstage, her latest exhibition, photographer Sonia Cunliffe transports the observer to a world of movement, color, light and style, her images capturing the essence of one of the most popular fashion events in Latin America: Sao Paulo Fashion Week. Cunliffe has recently graduated from a Master Course in Photography at the Pan American School of Art in Sao Paulo. Backstage will be open to the public for a month.

Sirvase un Payaso- Theater

Don Juan Regresa de la Guerra- Theater

Volpone - Theater

A satyrical comedy by Ben Jonson, directed by Roberto Ángeles, about noble (and not so noble) Limenian men whose main interest in life is to make their fortune grow, no matter how absurd things might get or the cost others have to pay at the expense of their ambition. Volpone (interpreted by Alberto Ísola) is a wealthy man who, with the help of his parasytical servant, Mosca, pretends to be on his deathbed in order to fool those who dream of his inheritance. A very promising performance, set in colonial times, Volpone is definitely an opportunity to have a good laugh!

La Chunga- Theater

After 20 years, one of the most famous plays by the recognized Peruvian writer, Mario Vargas Llosa returns to the stage. La Chunga was written in 1985 and tells the story of a romance, a crime or a fantastic event, depending on who's the one telling the story. The main character is a mature women "La Chunga", filled with sensuality an mystery. The plot revolves around her, when a group of friends tries to remember what happened on her room the night she put up an innocent girl. Touching themes such as power, death and freedom, It's a wonderful play that mixes the fantastic and the harsh Latin American reality.
