After 11 years of absence, the popular Spanish singer Julio Iglesias is back! This February 18th, enjoy a unique concert at Jockey Club del Perú, where Julio Iglesias will present the best of his musical career. Some of his songs: Abrázame (Hug Me), El Amor (Love), Crazy, Hey, Seguiré Mi Camino (I'll Follow My Way) and Gwendolyne.

Achikée, La Tierra Seca (Achikée, Dry Land) is a play for children based on an Andean myth. Humorous and fun, the plot revolves around two children who try to run away from Achikée, barren and polluted soil struggling for survival. Both of the children carry seeds with them, and it's these seeds that Achikée needs to survive. The play will be performed by Palosanto Teatro (Palosanto Theater), and promotes love and respect for the environment.
After a small incident, successful New York executive, Ross Gardiner is sentenced to a period of community service. His task? To regularly visit the recently widowed elder, Mr. Green. As time passes, what starts as an ironic and hilariously funny relationship between two men who hate the sight of each other, evolves into a more profound and touching story, when they both discover that, despite their differences in age and values, they are more alike than they could ever imagine. Written by Jeff Baron, Visitando al Sr. Green (Visiting Mr. Green) is a witty and highly entertaining comedy which you must not miss.
Spend a nice afternoon with your children at the IX Festival de Teatro Para Niños (IX Theater Festival for Children), organized by ICPNA. The Cámara Peruana del Libro (Peruvian Chamber of Books) starts the year with a very interesting initiative - a project that attempts to diffuse and promote books and literature in all areas of Lima. The event is called Ferias Itinerantes del Libro, a book fair that will first take place in San Miguel and then taken to other districts of the Peruvian capital, like Magdalena, Barranco, Pueblo Libre, Callao and Jesús María. A total of 50 000 book titles will be offered at the fair, along with very entertaining cultural activities.
La Chunga (The Bad Girl) was written by Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa back in 1985, and tells the story of a romance, a crime, a fantastic event, (depending on the different narrators' perspectives). The main character is an adult woman, "La Chunga," whose personality is filled with sensuality and mystery. The plot revolves around her, as a group of friends try to remember what happened in her room the night she put up an innocent girl. The play explores themes such as power, death and freedom, and combines in a superb manner the harshness of Latin American reality with a world of fantasy.
As part of the International Festival Mirafoto, ICPNA invites you to visit Hidden Lives, a photography exhibition that presents the work of two artists and friends: Vivan Sundaram (India) and Anamaría McCarthy (Perú). Both women's photographs coincide in bringing back to the present their ancestors' different stories, since they are both fascinated by the idea of working with images so familiar and yet so foreign. The exhibition will be open to the general public from January 21st.


Hilo Rojo (Red Thread) is a comedy inspired on the Egyptian legend of Isis and Nepthis, inseparable sisters of Osiris, bonded by blood, thirst for power, love for Osiris and hate. Directed by Inés Pásic, the play will be performed without any dialogue, and actresses will use miming techniques, masks and a diversity of objects to create meaningful figures in the story.
Learn to sew traditional Marinera Norteña dresses at the Taller de Bordado de Lambayeque, a sewing workshop which looks to teach different techniques to sew simple (but very folkloric) designs on a traditional Marinera skirt/blouse. You will learn about popular iconography in the North of Peru, and how to apply it as designs on typical clothes and accessories. The workshop will be dictated by Elena Chavesta Olivares along with a group of women from Monsefú.

Imaginative and passionate, artist Rosario Pinasco harmoniously combines the memories of her past in her pieces of art, memories which focus around the tradition of using bells for communication. For Pinasco, a bell is more than an instrument - it evokes the memories of her life in Ica, religious and spiritual rituals, and urgency to whoever hears it ringing. Her paintings are dynamic, echoing the frenetic lives of urban dwellers. Pinasco has participated in several art exhibitions around the world, including places like Brasil, the USA and Venezuela.
Stunning landscapes, gorgeous paintings, ancestral tradition... This year's Exhibition on Japanese Calendars displays the beauty of nature in Japan, along with most significant traits of its millenary culture. Organized by the Centro Cultural Peruano Japonés (Peruvian Japanese Cultural Center) and the Japanese Embassy in Peru, this will the XX exhibition of its kind to take place in Lima.
Artist Miguel Ángel Mejía will delight you with 40 full-color photographs presenting the very picturesque village of Incahuasi. Located 6 hours away from Chiclayo and 3800 m above sea level, this colorful little village (whose name means House of The Inca in Quechua) is a melting pot for culture, tradition, mystery and joviality. The opening ceremony will take place on Feb. 5, 7:30 p.m.

ICPNA Arequipa and the mining company Cerro Verde S.A. organized the XIX national contest for young artists in 2009, Premio Cerro Verde. Now, ICPNA invites you to enjoy a magnificent exhibition which gathers the work of the contest's winner artists: Erick Huanta Zevallos (1st place - general category), Lucio Puma Ydme (1st place - experimental category), César Sánchez (2nd place - general category) and Ignacio Mateo Alvaro (2nd place - experimental category). The difference between the general and experimental categories is that in the experimental category, artists were encouraged to use copper as part of their creations. The exhibition will display 30 works of art.

Bearing in mind that Lima is the only capital city in South America with a full view of the sea, the Asociación Peruana de Instructores de Tandem (Peruvian Association of Tandem Instructors) has decided to organize a tour that allows people to discover Lima from a whole new perspective. The Tour Parapente LimaVision offers you the chance to feel the adrenaline of watching Lima on one side and the vastness of the Pacific Ocean on the other, while paragliding 8 km along the Costa Verde. Flights are operated by expert tandem instructors and reach a maximum height of 500 - 700 m above the city. Feeling adventurous?
Throughout the 20th Century, hats have played quite a significant role in Peruvian society, particularly in the 40s and 50s. Sombreros: Historia y Moda (Hats: History and Fashion) is an exhibition that gathers the private hat collections of Mocha Graña, Mari Solari and Ernesto Fernández Montagne, and takes the viewer on a wonderful journey, from the austerity of the post-war decade to the glamour of the 50s. It was also during this period of time that hats were regarded as a symbol for social status and began being imported all the way from London, Paris, New York and Buenos Aires. Opening Ceremony: January 13th, 7:30 pm.
As part of the international photography festival Mirafoto 09, ICPNA invites you to visit Testimonia Rock by photographer Danilo Vallejo García, an exhibition which gathers images, audio and texts on Ecuadorian underground rock singers. Discover the surge of metal and rock music back in the 1980s Ecuador, in cities like Quito, Guayaquil and Ambato, and the way it impacted Ecuadorian society. Opening ceremony: January 7th, 7 pm.
As part of the cultural programme for the Brazilian Week in Lima, an exhibition that gathers the most significant works of Pritzker Winner Architect, Oscar Niemeyer, has been organized. Niemeyer is internationally recognized for his influence in Modern Architecture, as well as for his participation in the construction of Brasilia. The architect has recently celebrated his 102nd birthday.
At the heart of Barranco, Lima's bohemian quarter, where artists and poets are born every day, lies the new art gallery "Arte San Francisco". The gallery is located at the Plaza San Francisco, a beautiful plaza surrounded by magnificent colonial architecture where you will also find the Iglesia San Francisco (San Francisco Church) and the poet José María Eguren's home. The gallery has various displays, including antiques, and painting and sculpture exhibitions.
