Sonidos Urbanos: Taller de Reciclaje Sonoro - Workshop

Sonidos Urbanos (Urban Sounds) is a workshop to be carried out by V&V, focused on raising awareness about acoustics and sounds in a urban context, namely Lima. Throughout the workshop, participants will be able to create and experiment with the sounds of the city in order to explore their musical potencial. All participants must be between 13 and 19 years of age.

Ferias Itinerantes del Libro in San Miguel - Book FairThe Cámara Peruana del Libro (Peruvian Chamber of Books) starts the year with a very interesting initiative - a project that attempts to diffuse and promote books and literature in all areas of Lima. The event is called Ferias Itinerantes del Libro, a book fair that will first take place in San Miguel and then taken to other districts of the Peruvian capital, like Magdalena, Barranco, Pueblo Libre, Callao and Jesús María. A total of 50 000 book titles will be offered at the fair, along with very entertaining cultural activities.

La Chunga - Theater

La Chunga - TheaterLa Chunga (The Bad Girl) was written by Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa back in 1985, and tells the story of a romance, a crime, a fantastic event, (depending on the different narrators' perspectives). The main character is an adult woman,  "La Chunga," whose personality is filled with sensuality and mystery. The plot revolves around her, as a group of friends try to remember what happened in her room the night she put up an innocent girl. The play explores themes such as power, death and freedom, and combines in a superb manner the harshness of Latin American reality with a world of fantasy.

Hidden Lives: Vivan Sundaram / Anamaría McCarthy - Photography ExhibitionAs part of the International Festival Mirafoto, ICPNA invites you to visit Hidden Lives, a photography exhibition that presents the work of two artists and friends: Vivan Sundaram (India) and Anamaría McCarthy (Perú). Both women's photographs coincide in bringing back to the present their ancestors' different stories, since they are both fascinated by the idea of working with images so familiar and yet so foreign. The exhibition will be open to the general public from January 21st.

"Museum Treasures" - Exhibition

For the X Meet for the Promotion and Diffusion of Intangible Heritage of the Iberoamerican Countries, the Museum of Popular Art and Tradition of the Institute Riva Agüero of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú will celebrate its 30th anniversary with the exhibition “Museum Treasures” (Tesoros de Museo). There will be fourteen rooms showing part of the museum’s collection gathered in these 30 years. The actual collection is made up of approximately 10,000 pieces made of different materials and coming from different places. This is an exhibition you cannot miss.
The opening will be Monday 9th November at 7:30pm and it will remain open until April of next year.

National Museum of Peruvian Culture inaugurates “Charamuray and its pottery”
The exposition called “Charamuray and its Pottery” shows the abilities of the local people of Charamuray in Cusco. This showing is part of the series “Land of Tradition” which looks to honour the towns that carry an artistic tradition. The abilities of these people were inherited from their ancestors and are transmitted to the new generations to contribute to the wisdom of the town that keeps expressions of the traditional patrimony alive in their daily routines. The exposition will be open until Febuary of next year.

Hilo Rojo - TheaterHilo Rojo (Red Thread) is a comedy inspired on the Egyptian legend of Isis and Nepthis, inseparable sisters of Osiris, bonded by blood, thirst for power, love for Osiris and hate. Directed by Inés Pásic, the play will be performed without any dialogue, and actresses will use miming techniques, masks and a diversity of objects to create meaningful figures in the story.

Her paintings are dynamic, echoing the frenetic lives of urban dwellers. Pinasco has participated in several art exhibitions around the world, including places like Brasil, the USA and Venezuela.

ICPNA Arequipa and the mining company Cerro Verde S.A. organized the XIX national contest for young artists in 2009, Premio Cerro Verde. Now, ICPNA invites you to enjoy a magnificent exhibition which gathers the work of the contest's winner artists: Erick Huanta Zevallos (1st place - general category), Lucio Puma Ydme (1st place - experimental category), César Sánchez (2nd place - general category) and Ignacio Mateo Alvaro (2nd place - experimental category). The difference between the general and experimental categories is that in the experimental category, artists were encouraged to use copper as part of their creations. The exhibition will display 30 works of art.

Sombreros: Historia y Moda - ExhibitionThroughout the 20th Century, hats have played quite a significant role in Peruvian society, particularly in the 40s and 50s. Sombreros: Historia y Moda (Hats: History and Fashion) is an exhibition that gathers the private hat collections of Mocha Graña, Mari Solari and Ernesto Fernández Montagne, and takes the viewer on a wonderful journey, from the austerity of the post-war decade to the glamour of the 50s. It was also during this period of time that hats were regarded as a symbol for social status and began being imported all the way from London, Paris, New York and Buenos Aires. Opening Ceremony: January 13th, 7:30 pm.

Oscar Niemeyer - ExhibitionAs part of the cultural programme for the Brazilian Week in Lima, an exhibition that gathers the most significant works of Pritzker Winner Architect, Oscar Niemeyer, has been organized. Niemeyer is internationally recognized for his influence in Modern Architecture, as well as for his participation in the construction of Brasilia. The architect has recently celebrated his 102nd birthday.
