Fiesta De La Candelaria in Puno - Cultural and Religious Festival

Every year, the Fiesta de la Candelaria in Puno honors the Virgen de la Candelaria, Lady of Puno and dearly loved by the locals. The festival represents one of the most important cultural and musical manifestations in Peru and South America, combining Catholic traditions with symbols of the Quechua and Aymara cultures. The Fiesta takes place during the first two weeks of February, February 2nd being the main day.

Cuentos En El Parque - Storytelling Event

Every Wednesday until Feb. 17, the Municipality of San Isidro invites you to share some time with your family and enjoy storytelling in different parks of San Isidro. The first one, on Feb. 3, will be Un Río de Cuentos (A River Of Stories), a show which gathers a variety of traditional stories from the Amazon tribes and reflects on the relationship between man and nature. This story will be narrated and acted out at El Olivar. Then, on Feb. 10 at Parque Malecón Barnales, comes Había No Solo Una Vez y Mil Maneras De Contar Historias (It Was Not Once Upon A Time and A Thousand Ways To Tell A Story), a performance in which the narrator uses language, non-traditional puppets, popular art and Kamishibai (paper theater) techniques to tell a spectacular story. The last one will take place on Feb. 17 at El Olivar, Kamishibai Para Todos: El Teatro de Papel (Kamishibai For Everyone: Paper Theater) and will tell 3 traditional Japanese stories using the very folkloric Kamishibai theater techniques. All stories will be told in Spanish.

IX Festival de Teatro Para Niños - Children's Event

Spend a nice afternoon with your children at the IX Festival de Teatro Para Niños (IX Theater Festival for Children), organized by ICPNA. Performances (in Spanish)  include La Cenicienta (Cinderella), Romatapokis, Achikée, La Tierra Seca (Achikée, Dry Earth), Los Músicos de Bremen (The Bremen Musicians), La Ratoncita Vanidosa (The Vain Little Mouse), La Tropa de la Amistad (The Frienship Troupe), Las Mil y Una Noches (One Thousand and One Nights), Salvemos al País Orquídea Pin-Pin (Let's Save The Orchid Country Pin-Pin) and El Gato Con Botas (Puss in Boots).

Hidden Lives: Vivan Sundaram / Anamaría McCarthy - Photography Exhibition

As part of the International Festival Mirafoto, ICPNA invites you to visit Hidden Lives, a photography exhibition that presents the work of two artists and friends: Vivan Sundaram (India) and Anamaría McCarthy (Perú). Both women's photographs coincide in bringing back to the present their ancestors' different stories, since they are both fascinated by the idea of working with images so familiar and yet so foreign. The exhibition will be open to the general public from January 21st.

30 Artistas En El Centro - Art Exhibition

The Municipality of San Isidro invites you to visit 30 Artistas En El Centro, the first cultural activity of the year at Centro Cultural El Olivar and an exhibition that gathers the work of 30 different artists. Talented and creative, these artists are all residents of San Isidro, and have each combined their abilities and originality to arrive at a unique expressiveness in their creations.

Premio Cerro Verde at ICPNA La Molina - Art Exhibition

ICPNA Arequipa and the mining company Cerro Verde S.A. organized the XIX national contest for young artists in 2009, Premio Cerro Verde. Now, ICPNA invites you to enjoy a magnificent exhibition which gathers the work of the contest's winner artists: Erick Huanta Zevallos (1st place - general category), Lucio Puma Ydme (1st place - experimental category), César Sánchez (2nd place - general category) and Ignacio Mateo Alvaro (2nd place - experimental category). The difference between the general and experimental categories is that in the experimental category, artists were encouraged to use copper as part of their creations. The exhibition will display 30 works of art.

Destapada Limeña - Art Exhibition

Artist Sheila Alvarado presents her second individual exhibition, Destapada Limeña (Unveiled Limenian Woman), where she continues to transmit the message of her first exhibition, Limeña Girl. Her work consists of her well-known pin-ups, based on the curves of her half-naked body. Alvarado coursed her studies at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes and the Escuela Superior de Arte Corriente Alterna, where she specialised in photography.

Tour Parapente LimaVision - Sightseeing Event

Bearing in mind that Lima is the only capital city in South America with a full view of the sea, the Asociación Peruana de Instructores de Tandem (Peruvian Association of Tandem Instructors) has decided to organize a tour that allows people to discover Lima from a whole new perspective. The Tour Parapente LimaVision offers you the chance to feel the adrenaline of watching Lima on one side and the vastness of the Pacific Ocean on the other, while paragliding 8 km along the Costa Verde. Flights are operated by expert tandem instructors and reach a maximum height of 500 - 700 m above the city. Feeling adventurous?

Cajón Workshop with Camilo Ballumbrosio - Music Workshop

This summer, don't miss the opportunity to learn to play the Peruvian cajón, a traditional percussion instrument in Peru's musical history. The workshop has been organized by the Municipality of San Isidro, and will be in charge of prof. Camilo Ballumbrosio, who plays the cajón since the early age of 4. There will be 2 groups: Children (8 - 15 years old) and Adults (15 and over).

Sombreros: Historia y Moda - Exhibition

Throughout the 20th Century, hats have played quite a significant role in Peruvian society, particularly in the 40s and 50s. Sombreros: Historia y Moda (Hats: History and Fashion) is an exhibition that gathers the private hat collections of Mocha Graña, Mari Solari and Ernesto Fernández Montagne, and takes the viewer on a wonderful journey, from the austerity of the post-war decade to the glamour of the 50s. It was also during this period of time that hats were regarded as a symbol for social status and began being imported all the way from London, Paris, New York and Buenos Aires. Opening Ceremony: January 13th, 7:30 pm.

Testimonia Rock - Photography Exhibition

As part of the international photography festival Mirafoto 09, ICPNA invites you to visit Testimonia Rock by photographer Danilo Vallejo García, an exhibition which gathers images, audio and texts on Ecuadorian underground rock singers. Discover the surge of metal and rock music back in the 1980s Ecuador, in cities like Quito, Guayaquil and Ambato, and the way it impacted Ecuadorian society. Opening ceremony: January 7th, 7 pm.

Oscar Niemeyer - Exhibition

As part of the cultural programme for the Brazilian Week in Lima, an exhibition that gathers the most significant works of Pritzker Winner Architect, Oscar Niemeyer, has been organized. Niemeyer is internationally recognized for his influence in Modern Architecture, as well as for his participation in the construction of Brasilia. The architect has recently celebrated his 102nd birthday.

Art in Galería Arte San Francisco

At the heart of Barranco, Lima's bohemian quarter, where artists and poets are born every day, lies the new art gallery "Arte San Francisco". The gallery is located at the Plaza San Francisco, a beautiful plaza surrounded by magnificent colonial architecture where you will also find the Iglesia San Francisco (San Francisco Church) and the poet José María Eguren's home. The gallery has various displays, including antiques, and painting and sculpture exhibitions.
