Peru is expected to export 200,000 tons of citrus fruits, such as mandarins, oranges, tangelo, grapefruit and lemon, which is 10% more than what was dispatched in 2018.
According to the general manager of the Association of Citrus Producers of Peru (ProCitrus), Sergio del Castillo Valderrama, “this increase would be supported by the largest shipments of mandarins, led by the W. Murcott and Tango varieties,” Fresh Plaza said.
In addition, new investments have been taking place with mandarins in La Libertad and lemons in Lambayeque and Piura.
Del Castillo also informed Fresh Plaza that the patented varieties of citrus fruits will bring development to the country. “Having different varieties that allow supplying the fruit in different commercial windows (early, middle and late) is essential for the mandarin business, he added”, as you can read in the aforementioned media.
