I live in Houston, but had to opportunity to visit Peru 6 times last year. I have eaten at several typical Peruvian restaurants here in the states, and in Peru, and I always order the Lomo Saltado when I do. El Hornero by far has the best Lomo Saltado I have ever tried. I would make it a point to visit the restaurant and eat the dish every time I was in Peru. They also have excellent sauces to dip bread in.
I would highly recommend it to anyone who visits!!

Elegant restaurant in front of the Malecon Chorrillos. Moderate pricing and good portions. Service is superb and the texture of the meats are A-1. Restaurant is full most of the time and if so and you do not want to wait, try Sonia restaurant just two blocks away or Rincon Chami a block away. After eating you can walk the food at the malecon with a superb view. Friady's they have baby pork or lechon on a stick. The anticuchos are of good size. Another place that I visit everytime I'm in Lima. Do not miss this spot the restaurant will reward your vist with their food.

Location is excellent, service is good. But unfortunately, i had the worst steak ever there, more fat than meat and tasteless. I am amazed why this restaurant doesn't serve Argentinean meat (probably the best in the world for flavour).
If you love a good steak, stick with the Argentinean restaurants in Lima. My presonal favourite is Corrientes 348. Excellent steaks and great prices too!

I don't know what restaurant Peter is talking about. Or maybe he just had bad luck in Lima.
Every time I fly to Lima on business I stop in the Hornero for some meat. And as a matter of fact you have a choice between American and Argentinean meat (not Peruvian), the American being more expensive.
If Peter would know better American meat is actually better than the Argentinean (I have Argentinean friends that agree with this) what makes Argentinean meat better is the way they prepare it.
I have traveled all over the world. to places like Katmandu, Shanghai, Jaipur and Buenos Aires. And I have to say that the experience of eating in Lima is up there with Paris and Brussels.
El Hornero may not be the best steakhouse in the world but Its very good and I highly recommendable.
Sorry Peter, but I think you just had a bad experience there.
P.S. I apologize if there is some mistakes on my English since is not my first language.
