DHL will charge you an outrageous fee for clearing your package through customs, even if what you are receiving is tax and duty exempt.
I had four books shipped to me from Amazon. Shipping was about 57$. On top of that DHL charged about 65$ for doing the customs paperwork.
The customer has no choice of doing this paperwork himself, this extra charge is not shown when making the purchase on Amazon, and a price list for services is nowhere to be found on DHL's peruvian website.
This is a staggering hidden fee, and the client is left with no choice: either to pay the "ransom" for his package, or lose the products he ordered.
In comparson, Serpost charges 25 soles for doing the customs paperwork.

DHL Peru is disgusting!!!
We sent a package from Africa to Peru (25kg) and it had arrived to Peru. Then they told us that the person who sent it has to receive it or they would not give it to us. And they also said that they need to charge us $8 everyday for them to keep our package. This is completely insane. Then they started to say that they cannot give it to us because it has used clothes inside. They said that they need to take it out and in order to do that they would charge us $200. My family had to go to boca negra (which is a very dangerous part of Callao) to negotiate but even that did not help. The bottom line is that DHL Peru is nothing but a scam and a group of robbers and they would do everything possible to steal the products from you. Never ever use DHL to send products to Peru.
