La Mar. Go. Just Go. It's a wonderful. First, you'll have to wait probably. But, it's a great experience and will be served while you wait at the front of the restaurant munching on chips and cancha with your cocktail. Then, you'll eat, do not neglect the appetizers. Especially the little tiny big flavor causas! OH... I want more! Then! Oh.. .the Ceviche! WOWOWOhhhhh.. I want MORE! (i'm getting full.. uh oh) The chef was stalking around the restaurant when we were there but I think he was just making sure everything was perfect. It was except for one little, but funny, thing. Some silly guy tried to walk through the fountain that is on the left when you come in.. THAT was funny! Enjoy!

This place is excellent - but be early, it packs out very quick. The fusion dishes are simply divine and the ceviches are just perfect. Excellent value for money and worthy of return trips.

La Mar is probably one of the best restaurants in Lima by far. The food is absolutely delicious!
BUT, I don't rate La Mar as excellent, because I believe that part of a culinary experience is the efficiency of the restaurant's staff. I've been there several times, and when I got there all the tables were full. Probably most people have encountered the same problem, BUT the tables were "full" with one or two people saving the table for other people!! La Mar management needs to seat COMPLETE PARTIES only! It's not fair that they have 6 persons table almost empty for almost an hour... is it? And the hostess, needs to be more efficient!

You will love Cafe del Mar they have a big disco on the second floor and food on the first floor, people of all ages.

I had to opportunity to visit Lima 6 times within the past year and a half, and eating at this restaurant was always included in my plans. It fills up fast, and unlike the states, people will go and eat all of their courses and always sit after to talk and either drink coffee or pisco. When I got there at 12 on the dot, I was always seated quickly, but after 12:30 there was always a wait. The food is definitely worth the wait and worth the trip. The Ceviche Nikkei is awesome, as well as the tuna with sauco (black currant) sauce. You really can't go wrong with this restaurant.

I was in Peru May 2007 and I went to this restaurant 16 times (I counted) of the 28 days that I was in Peru (the others 12 days I went to the others Acurios' restaurants). The variety, the flavor, presentation, quality of the food...equals SUPERB!! Also, the hostes, the waitresses were so kind and friendly. Sometime you have to wait..but, gee..it's worth it!!. Mr. Gaston you really made it with this restaurant also. Two thumbs up!!.

Superb....if you go between 12:15-1:00PM expect an hour wait or longer....and people do wait! As I travel on business, usually alone, I prefer to sit at the sushi/ cebiche bar where I can observe all of the dishes and ask questions...I like the fact that the chefs at the sushi bar where white surgical gloves....La Mar is expensive compared to other cebicherias, but I prefer to pay a little more and receive high quality food, service, and leave fully satisfied rather than to try to go a cheaper route and be dissapointed. The first time I went to La Mar I was so excited I stayed for about 3 hours trying various dishes...Either go early or late (12:00PM or 3:00PM) they close at 5:00PM...One more note...in case extremely full try Pescados Capitales down the street....also and excellent choice!

I WENT A COUPLE OF TIMES TO LA MAR ON JUNE OF THIS YEAR REALLY INCREDIBLE, THE TASTE, THE PLACE AND THE PEOPLE THAT WORKS THERE, THEY ENJOY EVERY PART OF WORK AT THAT PLACE THE WAY THEY TREAT YOU IS INCREDIBLE, WHAT I CAN SAY, GASTON IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO OPEN LA MAR HERE IN WASHINGTON DC AREA, I AM IN!.

The food is excellent as all have said. This is the place to go if you want cutting edge peruvian food. There are a lot of places that do a great cebiche or tiradito but, La Mar is an experience in upscale Limeno dining.
The comment that you won't get in if you aren't white is also not true. There can be a lot of discrimination in Lima against mestizos, indigenous, or otherwise colored people (I've lived in Peru almost two years in various locations and agree that it is around)....but as long as you are wealthy enough to eat here, they will treat you with respect....regardless of whether your relatives came from the highlands, or you speak with a horrid gringo accent.

I went couple of months ago with two cusine chefs, one from Argentina and second time in the restaurant, she was anyway speakless, we tried like 7 plates and all of them were excelent, my favorite one was shrimps with some kind of sweet souce, it was to die there in that moment and be happy.
I want to add that here is no discrimination at all, I was almost in pijamas and I am far from white but a huge mix of chinese, andean, black, etc. Very peruvian! and they treat me with the same respect than everybody else.

The food is amazing. When ever we go it is always a difficult decision to go with something I have had in the past that I know will be delicious or try another one of the tempting dishes. When ever I have been enticed to try something new I haven't be disappointed yet.

Nobody´s taken so seriously in Peru like Gaston Acurio and his staff to cook and prepare so delicious and very high quality meals made mainly from fish and seafood, and of course lots of different recipes that will make you visit again the restaurant at least one time every 2 months.
I bet Ramsey the Kitchen´s nightmare would be here so astonished and overwhelmed by eating and enjoying the Peruvian Ceviche and other fresh meals. If he ever come, he will manage to find any mistake or error in this La MAR Restaurant.
