Excellent
This is the best restaurant in Lima and the best restarant I've ever been to! The chef utilizes fresh local Peruvian produce to create a unique Latin Mediterrean fusion. The result is light flavorful dishes that are simply savory. Anyone who travels through Lima should make a reservation and have a meal here--it's a wonderful gastronomical experience.

Excellent
The service and the food were excellently presented and every dish tasted wonderful.  I can only endorse the views of Desiree.

Excellent
I have had the luxury of eating here a few times, and having a full day of instruction in the kitchen under the Chef. It truly is a remarkable operation. No expense is spared in the quest for quality....the atmosphere is perfect, for either lunch or dinner.
Just having cocktails and appetizers is a sumptuos enenough experience if you aren't in the mood for a full meal.
Try the Osso Bucco reduced in black beer...buenaso!

(Beware, the owner, Oscar, is insane!!!!JaJa!)

The food was tasty but it was presented in an old-fashioned manner (and our starter of rinoncito was under-cooked and had to be sent back to the kitchen). The service was over-bearing, bordering on unpleasant. The room is small, more crowded than a French bistro, the guests were loud and the casually dressed owner flitting around was annoying. The food could not compensate for the other deficiencies in the restaurant and it was too expensive as well.

I tend to agree with Audrey and Dimitri.
La Gloria does not stand up to its fame. Or, I dont know, maybe it wasnt a good day...

1. We went there yesterday. We had made a reservation for 21.30. Bad luck, there was no table. So they sent us to the bar where we waited for about half an hour. Then what is the meaning of doing the reservation 3 days before?

2. The drinks they served at the bar (Algarrobina and Maracuya Sour) were really not good and extremely expensive. I have tasted much better algarrobina in much cheaper restaurants or bars.

3. There are so many tables crammed in a relatively small space that in order to go to the bathroom you had to disturb half the clients.

4. Unbearably noisy, all this fuss buzzing in your head. Sounded more like a busy restaurant in a train station than a high end restaurant.

5. The food, or at least the salad and the dishes we tried were really nothing special. I d say completely indifferent, unacceptable for a restaurant so expensive. There are certainly better choices among Lima s good restaurants.

6. Very expensive! Two persons (two plates, a salad, no wine) and we paid 230 soles (56 euros!). Come on people!  We are in Peru!

In short: A "trendy" restaurant. If you enjoy sitting  crammed with 100 more people, you enjoy watching Lima's oh-so-high (white) class and you can stand all that noise, then this is your place!

I must say I agree with the last two posts.  My companion and I recently dined at LaGloria and I thought it was overrated and overpriced.  We started out with three appetizers.  The baby occtupus and the sesos were very good.  However, the grilled prawns were mediocre and I've cooked better in my own kitchen.  The appetizers were presented with a basket of small fresh french rolls.  Our main courses were duck with papas amarillo, oxtails, and osso bucco.  All were somewhat of a disappontment.  The duck was lacking in flavor and a very boring presentation.  Both the oxtails and osso bucco were overwhelmed by the sauce.  The meat was tender and flavorable and could have done very well without the over-generous and over-flavored sauces.  Why can't a restaurant of this caliber be more creative and present more than mashed potatoes as a side dish?  The noise level and ever-present waitstaff became overwhelming at times.  It appears that this is a place to see and be seen and the food seems somewhat secondary to the majority of patrons.  It would seem that the management of this establishment is interested more in seating as many people as possible in a small area and overcharging for somewhat basic dishes that I've had better prepared in home kitchens.  Sorry, but a big disappoinment for our party and we'll not be back.

I totally agree with Audrey & Dimitri's items 1, 3 and 4. It is unacceptable that after making reservations we had to wait in the tiny-overcrowded bar for almost 10 minutes. We were very upset.
To make it worst, we were directed to a table that wasn't ready. Of course I mentioned to the waiter that it was unacceptable to make us sit in a table that wasn't completely prepared.

For us that used to go to the nicest restaurants in Miami was very shocking to go to the "very best" restaurant in Peru and find a poor service; a very crowded, noisy, and uncomfortable place. Fortunately, the food was really good but it doesn't compensate the lack of service and comfort. Overall it wasn't a good experience. Sad that we chose the Gloria to celebrate our second year anniversary.

Only go there if you are a slim woman or not very hungry! The taste of the food was normal, but the dishes were extremely expensive for the portion you get. I asked for a salmon, OK, but my brother-in-law, who likes to eat good asked for ravioli priced 32 soles and he only got four on his dish. 8 soles per ravioli! Unbelievable! Better go to San Ceferino which is absolutely delicious, has bigger dishes and is a bit less expensive. It's true that it's noisy but I think that doesn't depend on the restaurant but on the people themselves. Of course they could make eliminate some tables to make more space and have less noise, but that probably is not
profitable for the restaurant...

Poor

I didnt like this place at all, is too small, very crowded, noisy, is upscale but there are hundreds of restaurants in Lima that are much much better than this one.
I didnt like the food either, nothing spectacular, is over priced.
Im peruvian and I love to eat and enjoy a good meal, I wont get back to this place at all.
I dont mind to pay the price if im satisfied with the food. I was very dissapointed

George T.

If you think 56 Euros is expensive for such a meal, where do
you eat back in Europe Mc Donalds?
c'mon...
There is always the market with a S/.5 menu.

As for this "you enjoy watching Lima's oh-so-high (white) class"
totally unaproppiate comment.

Hello..... www.Livinginperu.com... 7 out of the 11 previous posts rate La Gloria "average or less". We suggest that you don't rate this restaurant as Number 1 on your list. We'll make it 8 out of 12. We had lunch there and the music ( ???.... lots of thumping noise ) was so LOUD that it took away from any food presentation.  We just wanted to leave as soon as possible....even before our food came. We had Tuna ( so,so) and black raviolis ( first time...interesting).....all too expensive as compared to Peruvian menus elsewhere.  We suggested to the waiter and what we thought was the manager on duty to lower the music volume and or at least change the type played but ...no go....still blasting noise as we left. We won't go back.

Astrid y Gaston
is our Number 1 in Lima.

La Mar is a close Number 2 for the seafood . For lunch you have to get there right when it opens or else wait in a long line. These Peruvians know where good food is served.
