Excellent
Outstanding! without a doubt the best sushi spot in Lima. The Itamares are super friendly and skillful. No wonder Nobu (from Nobu in L.A.) himself comes every once in a while to add some new dishes to the large list they have to offer. The Matsuei Maki Roll ROCKS!!! This is one restaurant you don´t wanna miss ... Enjoy!

Poor
Not outstanding. The fish for the sushi and sashimi was uninteresting: tuna and salmon and not sweet enough anyway. The main course steamed fish was overcooked and so were the vegetables in the dish (we complained and were only charged half price for the dish). The benches are uncomfortable and the bar too crowded.

Matsuei is the best sushi bar in Lima by far, its got that cozy feeling for being small and its located perfectly in the heart of San Isidro. Not only the food, like the matsuei makis and the encevichados are excellent, but also the service. One of the things I most miss about Lima, "cerrao".

This by far is the best Sushi bar I have been to in Lima. The staff and the owners are wonderful. I loath seafood, but one try of the acevichado plate and I'm hooked. This is the only place in Lima I will eat seafood based dishes.

Great location, nice and cozy, and best Sushi in town! Not to mention that it is very reasonably priced. Worth every Nuevo Sole!

All I can say is wow! It's my new favorite restaurant in Peru! The flavors are incredible, the presentation is outstandingly creative, and the atmosphere is very traditional. I felt as if I was in Japan. I would highly recommend the Matsuei Maki with sweet eel sauce. Most places in Lima have tried to copy it, but none have perfected it like Matsuei! (hence the name) The restaurant used to be owned by the famous chef Nobu, who now owns restaurants all over the world with many different celebrities. (Robert DeNiro, Al Pachino, etc.) Most recipes came from him! If you are looking for sushi, this is the place to go! Enjoy!
