Education in Peru is divided into 6 years of elementary school and 5 years of high school. The average Peruvian attends public schools. Foreigners choose private schools due to the language and the quality of the education; there are some bilingual schools in Lima, where English, German, French, Italian and Chinese are spoken.

The application to these schools must be completed some months in advance due to the limited number of students per class. Entrance fees run from $2000 and up, and the monthly fees in the good schools are above USD250. In some private schools in Lima, there are international baccalaureate programs recognized worldwide.

There are a number of universities where it is possible to study languages degrees include Masters, MBA’s, and doctorates, some courses are taught via internet though all courses are in Spanish.

There are also institutes where it is posiible to learn arts, design, photography, decoration, fashion, cuisine, jewelry and crafts. There are excellent places for these alternatives.

For children under 5, there are nurseries called “nidos” (nest), some of them have bilingual teachers. Most of the “nidos” accept children from 1 year old and are open in the mornings.
