Country Club El Bosque

El Bosque is a beautiful country club. My family was one of the first to join. I have fond memories growing up in El Bosque.

My dad played tennis, while my mom got involved in committees, and my siblings and I were part of el Campamento. I also loved horseback riding, swimming, and walking el Bosque's Champion German Shepherd Yurgi.

we used to be members of this country club. i had so much fun as a child, we used to go horseback riding, hiking to "el mirador", get lost between the nature running from bungalow to bungalow, eating great food, riding the pedal boats and feeding the ducks...and of course, all the different pools and play grounds.

I was also a founding member I was known as El torero, because I was one of the 1st bullfighters made in El Bosque.
I played tennis too, from 1966-69. For me Country club El bosque gave me a new dimension in my life, I used to be also with a group of tennis players of my age like Santiago Gomez Mestanza " Chany" and his family, the Ribeiros  MIMI and Milena, etc.

In el Fortin I was one of the Camp leaders with Sr. Diaz, and Salvador, I never had such a wonderful time as I did back then.  And I have never seen a club like this in any place in the whole world, and believe me all, I have been through the whole earth ( except Africa, or Australia ). The diversity of activities and people made it unique.

If you knew me Monica, and you know the group of kids we played together, please pass my e-mail to all of them.  I live in the USA since 1969. I am an executive and entrprenuer. Your last name rings a bell.

Looking forward to hearing from any one from my time 1965-1970.

With great sorrow I inform you that Francisco Lacko died Wednesday, 16 January 2008. Known as tio Pancho, he was in the comite of El Fortin for many years.

I was also a leader in el campamento, with Salvador. Carlos, Chani now lives in the USA. Mimi just returned to Peru. Roxana never left and Milena is also in the USA.

I just learned that I have to write only in English so the 1st letter will destroyed. I was so happy to hear from someone that knew me when I was in Peru as a young kid. 

Too bad that Francisco died. that is why we must be close with our Maker.

what do you know about "el Negro" Vargas, for me this gentlemen was a very special man who helped me so much when my self esteem was so low. Chani  also was for me a very special person, I developed a lot of love back then for him.

Mimi was my "camote" I always liked her and truly would have ended up the rest of my life with her. but she was in a different trip.

I came to the USA in January 1969, not for money, my dad had plenty of it back then, I came to the USA for finding a woman to love me, and for adventure. I found them both, perhaps in excess. 

I will soon be gone to Afghanistan as the 2nd in command for the entire reconstruction of that country, if I come back alive I would love to meet you all again. 

Please have our COLLERA to write me, if you know about Elizabeth have her write me too.

THE COUNTRY CLUB EL BOSQUE DID HELP ME AGREAT DEAL WHEN I NEEDED IT SO BADLY IN MY LIFE. I WILL NEVER FORGET THE GREAT TIMES IN THE TENNIS COURTS, POOLS, "EL FORTIN ", THE BULLRING, HORSES , ETC.

IN THE USA I NEVER FOUND ANYTHING LIKE IT.

Hi Carlos it is great to hear from you,I am back in Peru after 25 years and is great.I am married to a gringo and have only one son,I also have great memories of El Bosque what a place to grow up.
Knut if you read this it wasnt a spider but a bee,and your father was great he kept the club impecable and as big as the Bosque is he was everywhere,we were always looking over our shoulders when doing some mischief wich we did often ,because your father use to appear from nowhere we could never figure how he did it,but respect him very much for it.
Hey Carlos ,Chany is coming to Lima feb15 to celebrate his 60s he is having a big party at the casino in Miraflores,we also are going to spend a week in el Bosque.He lives in Washington his phone is 703-209-6560.

Hi Knut

I also remember your father very well and I can tell you that we all were very sad when he died. We feared him, but also respected and appreciated him deeply. We, the first generation of campers in El Bosque, remember your father as the person who was behind the beauty of the club. He was a pain for us, because he always caught us doing something we should not be doing and he would go, no, no, no, no.  But we knew that thanks to him the club was beautiful, clean, perfect. It was never the same after he was gone. Take care and I am glad to have found  this web site thanks to Margarita.

As you can see, I passed your info along. This is a great way to stay in touch! Hopefully more people from la collera will find this blog.

Last week a group of ex-lideres y acampantes got together in Miami. The group was relatively small compared to last year's in Los Angeles. I didn't know several of them (much younger than us) but it was very nice to see some old friends. All of them knew my father and it was interesting to hear some anecdotes about him.

I live in Virginia. Where do you live? And when are you leaving?

I thank you for your letter, and the great job you have done, I am sure that Francisco would have enjoyed to hearing about this encounter of some of us,  the founder mebers ( Socios fundadores) of "El Bosque". 1965-1969 for me, since I came to the USA at 19.

I have 8 children and three grand children, from the age of 33 to 15.
3 girls, the oldest girl, Sherry, 33 married to a doctor in Texas, and the Tony Carlo Anthony), UCLA, 32, a biologist in California, from my 1st marriage,
Elias 25 Manager in UPS and going to Business Shool in Plattsburgh, NY, Sarah 23, A biologist graduated in last December form Ithaca College, Hannah, 21, studing medicine at Ithaca College, but going to Australia for the school semester in 28 hours only, Carlos 19 going to College in Courtland, Peter, Junior in highshool, and Nicolas 15. ( both of them well known in the State of New York as champions in wrestling)

My father, Dr. Santiago Antunez de Mayolo Larragan, was one of the first people to join El Bosque.  I was born in 1965 and have pictures as a six-month old, in my mom's arms by the lake. I learned how to ride a horse there (I fell off a horse more than once!). I remember my siblings, my friends and I, free off parental controls, running up and down, swimming, hiking up the mountains surrounding the club, eating zambito de lucuma and finally joining my parents and their friends for a parrillada. When I was little I used to think that heaven resembled El Bosque. The most beautiful memories of my childhood were spent there. Later, when I became a teenager, I briefly joined El Campamento (I had my first real kiss there!) but my parents would not let me go every weekend by myself ("too much freedom"). In 2006, in one of our trips to Lima, I took my children to El Bosque and stayed at a bungalow for a weekend. My dad has been dead for almost fifteen years now and he never met my kids; but when I was there, with my seven-year old triplets, I really felt that he was watching us, that he was about to come out of bochas or playing sapo, I could almost see him, smiling, asking us to join him for picarones. I am an attorney in Iowa now, and every year receive invitations to join the local country club. Needless to say, I haven't done so. Nothing I have seen anywhere compares to El Bosque.  My children keep asking "When are we going back to Peru? When are we going back to El Bosque?"

Yes, It is true that in my travels around the world I have never seen such special CLUB like EL BOSQUE. With every thing you wish to learn and have fun with when you are you and seeking positive things in your life.

I may have seen your father as we were memebers since 1965, we werre the teenage  group that actually set the standards for even your generation in el FORTIN, and in may sport activities, since we were the 1st promotion of camp Leaders, even for you too.
 
It is beautiful to see many of us still in contact after 40 years. Most of us have grown to be professionals or entreprenuers. I live in Plattsburgh, NY, 21 mile from Canada.  And i have been a business man most of my life, as the tradition for hundreds of years in my family.

A few of us will be in Lima this coming week, I could not go go since I will be leaving soon to Central Asia.

I wish you well to you and kids.

I remembered when the club El Bosque first opened up, it was in 1964 and I was only 11...I lived in Chosica, not far from El Bosque, a friend of mine's family was one of the very first members, Fernando Mosquera was his name, I think he is living in Spain nowadays. Last time I was there was 1993, I visited for the day, gorgeous and beautiful as ever....many great memories came by, especially the "cancha de fulbito"... where I spent hours playing with my buddies.

I left Peru in 1968, my father was already here since 1965 and then the entire family came in 1969....was one of the saddest times of my life, but a new beginning for me and family...now living in Liverpool, NY...a suburb of Syracuse in upstate NY. Love it here, grew up in northern NJ and now living here the last 28 years... Just sold an indoor sports center, a business I owned for the last 27 years, now coaching soccer, taking care of my real estate business and opening an upscale restaurant in the new expansion (Destiny) taking place next to the Carousel mall in the next couple of years.

Well it is true that I have not found in the whole world even in the USa a club like "El Bosque". John Russel, the creator of our club, who by now must be dead, was a genial land developer. I spent time with him, when I as a young man, sometimes he will bring me to Lima in his Jaguar, later on I immitated him by buying two Jaguars.  Even John was used to immitate as a young man.

Que gusto leerlos..quizás no me recuerdan, pero yo si me acuerdo de mucho de ustedes, fuí acampante desde los primeros campamentos de los años 65 en carpas con Vargas, luego disfruté en las cabañas con líderes como Chany, Mosco, etc. fui aspirante en la época de Carlos Verau y Líder con el negro Salas, hasta el año 73 que me fuí a vivir a España,a mi vuelta a Lima en el 83 tuve la suerte de ser nombrado Director del Fortín, en donde estuve por 3 años y me preocupé de mantener la mística y aquello que todos ustedes generosamente dejaron..Llevo ahora 15 años viviendo en Santiago de Chile, tengo una empresa dedicada a la exportación de fruta y otra de comunicaciones IP, trato de viajar desde hace dos años al menos una vez al mes a Lima..

Te acordaras de mi al que llamaban "el torero".

Vivo en USA desde 1969, pero regrese al Peru en el 71 cuando mi padre murio en un accidente de carro regresando a Lima de una de sus minas en Arequipa.  A la edad de 21 me encontre con la responsabilidad de aumir a la presiedencia de la empresa minera de mi padre. pero no estaba preparado para tal responsabilidad y regrese a USA a terminar mis estudios y me case tambien me divorcie y me volvi a casar, y ahora tengo 8 hijos.  Carlo Anthony graduado en UCLA, biologo, Sherrie casada con un doctor, Elias estudiando todavia pero es gerente de UPS en Plattsburgh NY, Sarah graduada, de Ithaca College,biologa y trabajando en Cornell University como cientifica, Hanah, que recien regreso de Australia, se gradua de Ithaca College en 2008, pero seguira sus estudios para ser psiquiatra, Carlos III estudiando en su segundo ano de college en Itacha, Peter, en secundaria, campeon de estado de New York en wretling, y Nicolas mi ultimo de 16 years en secundaria.   

En California forme mis propias empresas de negocios y en los 70s traje al Peru inversiones de negocios a nivel de gobierno para la mineria, agro-industria, etc. pero la atmosfera de negocios en esa epoca era muy nebulosas y regrese a USA  donde hasta el dia de hoy tengo una enpresa de consultoria en el campo minero, Metalurgia, Cemento, construction y otros.

Si visitas las plantas de cemento en Chile como Polpaico, LAfagrge, Bio Bio etc. y las plantas mineras de CODELCO etc todas tiene mis equipos PLATTCO y tambien mis servicios de ingenieria.  En los ultimos anos entre  a la construction con EXXON_MOBIL, y asociadas que trabajan exclisivamente con el gobierno en la reconstruction de Iraq, Afghanistan etc. 

Ya que que estas en telecomunicaciones te contare que en los 80s fui  dueno de Advanced Satellite Communications y fui e l pionero en traer TVRO SATV a toda Latin America y Eastern Europe. 

Tu diras que hago con mis ganancias, en el Peru empeze una fundacion llamada Paz y Amor pero tuve como my gerente a una rata mayor, un contador con el apelliddo Apestigue, y tuve que cerrarla.

Pero eso es lo que hago en tros paises y lo hice con las intenciones de propagar el amor a Cristo. 

Pensaba formar en Afghanistan una cooperativa para exportar frutas como granada, y almendras para ayudar a los pobres de ese pais. Derrepente hacemos algo.

Hi everyone,

My sister Deborah Kovac Holmberg just returned from "El Campamento's" reunion in Switzerland where they have been meeting for several years. Deborah hosted the "El Campamento" reunion at her home in the US last year. Apparently, the plan is to hold El Campamento reunions twice a year, one in the US and another in Europe.

Mario Reynoso is very involved and loves for everyone to come together at these reunions. If you have fond memories of El Bosque and El Campamento, you should try to come to one of the reunions. I'll let Deborah reply about her recent trip to Switzerland and Eric can give the details on the reunions in Florida.

It's been great reading all the comments on this page. Keep them coming!  My mom, Nelly Kovac, who lives in Los Angeles since 1971 sends her love to all of you.

If I wrote about my background inthis site it was to share with my old friends from the late 60’s that spent with me a great deal of time in El Bosque.  IT WAS NOT FOR YOU, INTRUDER!!!

Estare viajando en unos dias ni bien tenga la visa que tengo que ir a sacarla a NewYork City.

To the Web Master of Living in Peru: I saw this morning the message from THE DARK STRANGER….and it obviously was written by a deviated mind criminal, of someone that knows me.. locally.  
 

By this individual saying that he will come after me, according to the laws in the USA is considered a life threat, and this individual will be arrested by the local police force or the FBI once he is exposed.  This message will go to the police authorities today.

 I ask the Web Master to disclose the email address to me and send it to my email address so I could turn this information to the FBI and local police authorities for the arrest and conviction of this individual.  WHat he has done is considered a serious offense and a felony.

 When I was the partner and President of a worldwide known PLATTCO CPC in this town, and also did a lot of construction of my own properties, I hired and fired many people, and in business always enemies are created.  This man must be the results of one of them...or someone that has threten my life... and must be brought to justice. Carlos Avellaneda

Hi Carlos I was looking in the internet for sport articles about your son Peter since I was his coach in the past and I am an admirer of his with his wrestling achievements as a champion in the State of New York.  I was shocked after reading the note of sent by this crazy man, the dark stranger.   I am glad that the police got this crazy person. I can vouch for you that you have been a good example of what a father can be in our community since 1991 when you arrived to live in Plattsburgh.  I saw the article n the Press Republican newspaper when you brought your Latin American friends that were high government officials of many countries.  I was very impressed how Latin American man comes to our community and put Plattsburgh in the map with your international activities. I have also seen how you overcame all the obstacles that our racial discriminating society brought to your path, but your integrity, and your love for God made you a success story for many to follow. I see those results with your children, and make me happy to know you as my friend. I am so happy to hear that your oldest daughter Sarah graduated from Ithaca College, where many in Plattsburgh can not be admitted.  I also read that she is working for a Nobel prized winner scientist at Cornell University.  The same goes for Hannah that is graduating this year form the same school too. I hope that this website removes that foolish message of the “dark stranger” and that the authorities do punish this man full of envy about your achievements. 

If anyone that reads this message still has doubts of your integrity, they must write me. I know that you were the President and part owner of PLATTCO-CPC, I also know of the many humanitarian works you have done for local and people in Latin America, and your missionary work worldwide, I also know all your children that only speak very highly of you.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.   THE MAN THAT SENT THIS MESSAGE IS A AN AFRICAN THAT I HELPED TO GET A JOB IN PLATSBURGH.  HIS DISHONESTY MADE LOSE MY INTEREST OF BEEN A FRIEND.  NOW HE WAS BACK IN AFRICA AND THE POLICE CAN NOT DO ANYTHING TO HIM UNLESS HE RETURNS TO THE USA.

Nobody is "full of envy" for all of your achivements. Or shall I say COMPLETE LACK of achivements? You live in a trailor, own two cars that barely function (which you can't even drive because you were caught driving while drunk), you do not have a job, your wife works full-time while you suck money out of her like a leech, you are an alcoholic, and nobody likes being around you. All you ever talk about is yourself. All you ever talk about is all this money you supposively have and all of these business ventures you go on. Too bad you never have a grain of proof to back any of your stories up.

And do not treat us as if were are idiots. It is beyond obvious that Peter's wrestling coach did not write that. As a matter of fact--you did! When compared to eerything else you have written on this board it becomes very obvious that you pretended to be another person in order to make yourself look good. But guess what. You are still a liar. Ithaca College is not a hard school to get into, and plenty of people from Plattsburgh could pull it off. You just want people to think that you have impressively smart children.

obvious Jack Blake is not an american, someone with a college education can easily see all the mistakes. BB707, I don't know who you are, but I can tell you know Carlos very well and as a matter of fact you are absolutely correct about Mr. Avellanedas, the only thing I can question BB707 is about Ithaca college, great school in a very nice setting, otherwise he's on the money.
