Pisco Fundador of Cañete comes from the district of Pacaran in the province of Cañete. It is born between the vineyards of San Marcos and Romani of the surrounding districts. This is the area where the Franciscans came in the 1700s where Don Dionisio Crisostomo and Doña Rosa Campos Rivdeneira established their vineyards for the production of wines and Pisco without a particular brand. Between 1945 and 1960 the Pacaran Pisco brand was registered, which over time disappeared, and was replaced by the Fundador de Cañete brand. This latter brand name is what brings Don Geronimo de Zurbano out of historical obscurity. He was the Spaniard who established or “Founded” the Santa Maria Villa that is known today as the province of Cañete. Cañete is the result of his effort during Colonial times to establish a Christian Villa where grapes could be developed along with the Huarco Indians.
Recently they developed a Pisco Puro that is a mix of Uvina and Quebranta grapes that highlight the esters and aldehydes of the Uvina grape with the elegance of the Quebranta grape with a smooth 41 degrees of alcohol which is easy on the palate. This particular blend earned them the gold medal in the 2006 Lima regional contest.
