Participation at the spirits fair “London Distil”
Pisco producers will seek to bolster the Peruvian spirit in London to diversify markets
Lima, April 16 (ANDINA). - Pisco producers will seek to bolster the image of Peru as the country of origin of this spirit in an effort to diversify export markets, today informed Promperú (the Commission on the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism).
To this end, 25 Peruvian producers will participate at the London Distil, the first fair specializing in distilled spirits of the World, which Hill take place in London (UK) from the 20th to the 22nd of May.
This fair is considered to be the ideal showcase for high quality, limited production such as Pisco.
“Given the demanding level of the English market, a good result in this country simplifies entry into other markets”, indicated the general director of the Pisco Regulatory Council, José Moquillaza.
He said the main tool will be the Guide to Piscos of Peru, which will include historical, technical and tourist information about the country, with summaries, pictures and contact information for the exporting Pisco producers.
They will print 5,000 guides to be distributed at the London Distil and through the Ministry of foreign affaire during the two international conferences which will take place in this country, the Heads of State and Government of Latin America and the Caribbean – European Union (ALC-UE) in May, and the Leaders of the Forum on Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in November, as well as through the diplomatic missions around the world.

Promperu highlighted that the most exclusive companies in the World interested in the business of selling, buying or serving spirits like Pisco, will participate at this fair which will take place at the London Wine & Spirits 2008 international festival. Last year’s festival hosted around 1,300 exhibitors and nearly 14,000 visitors.
Peru is presenting a very interesting theme at its stand called “Pisco es Peru”. During the three days of the fair, programmed activities will take place like, seminars and special case studies, as well as a lounge for VIP buyers.
On this occasion, Peruvian producer will participate with the support of the Special Committee on Country Products (Ceproba) – Pisco, made up of the Ministries of Foreign Trade and Tourism, of Agriculture, of Production and of Foreign Relations as well as private guilds.
In 2007 Pisco exports reached $998,617 US, which represented and increase of 47 per cent compared to the previous year. This demonstrated the significant increase in recent years and therefore there are solid expectations that international demand will increase as the country’s spirit becomes a more recognizable product.
The main country markets are the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Chile, Japan and Colombia.
