Pisco exports reached nearly US$ 900,000 in the first eight months of the year

Hello again,

I hope you all had a great week and have had a chance to try out some of my Pisco recipes!
This week we have an interesting update on our advances in foreign markets.
Onward and upward!

P.S. If you get a chance this week-end check out the second annual “Feria de Turismo, Gastronomía y Entretenimiento” on October 31st, November 1st and 2nd at the Círculo Militar del Perú (Av. Salaverry 1680, Jesús María)….you might get to try some pisco there…..

Cheers!

Hans

Pisco, with its flavor and aroma, continues to conquer the most refined palates of the World.  That is why its exports in the for the first eight months have totaled US$ 882,935;  57% higher than the same period last year, which registered a total US$ 562,997,  reported the Exporter’s Association (ADEX).

It should be pointed out that just like the previous total from January to June, between January and August of this year the exports of our “National Drink” were greater than those reported for the Chilean pisco, with reported exports of US$ 653, 752.  Our neighbor’s highest export volume was to the USA, followed by Argentina, Brazil, Poland and Germany, according to Prochile.

With respect to our pisco exports, the exporting association indicated that during the afore mentioned period, there were a total of 34 countries ordering our product.  The ranking was lead by the USA with orders totaling US$ 267,534 for 30% of the total, followed by Chile with purchases totaling  US$ 110, 490 for 13% of the total and with a 12% drop compared to its purchases in the for the first eight months last year.

According to ADEX’s commercial intelligence service, Data Trade, other destinations were Spain, with orders in ranging from US$ 25, 864 to US$ 104,469 representing 12%, followed by Germany, Colombia, Switzerland, Panama, Italy, Argentina and Canada.  The extraordinary growth in Spain (304%), Germany (398%), Switzerland (638%), Panama (1166%) and Italy (335%) should be highlighted.

Miguel Poblete, president of the ADEX Pisco Committee pointed out the recorded numbers and felt that they are the result of the awareness garnered by product in international markets, as a result of the shared work between producers and the State.  “We Pisco entrepreneurs have invested over the years in technology, the purchase of lands, prospecting trips and participation in prestigious International contests around the world where we received top places”, he said.

He observed that pisco is a refined drink that requires greater promoting and more work to open new markets and strengthen the ones we already have.  “We Business people continue with our work, all we want is that they let us do our work in peace, without the threats being issued by the Congress of the Republic regarding the expansion of pisco production to other areas. Currently it is limited to the Southern coast of the country, which is positive”, he said.

He added that for higher production, more pisco grapes need to be planted in the established pisco territories (Peruvian Southern Coast) since that area is special due to its soil and climate which yields the organoleptic characteristics that make our Pisco  one of the most exquisite drinks in the.

Exporting companies
According to ADEX, the main exporting companies are Inversiones ALEPA S.A., Santiago Queirolo S.A.C., Viña Ocucaje S.A., Viña Tacama S.A., Vitivinícola La Mancha S.A.C. and Compañía Destiladora del Perú S.R.L., among others.

It should be noted that in 2005 pisco exports reached US$ 483,000, in 2006 US$ 675, 000 and in 2007 US$ 1, 036,000.  The amount exported in the first eight months of the year already exceeds the 2006 total.

Pisco is produced with a variety of grapes: Qebranta, Mollar, Negra corriente, Uvina, Italia, Torontel, Moscatel and Albilla.
