From Thursday September 17th to Saturday September 19th, the JW Marriott is holding Mexican gastronomic festival. In addition to over 40 delicious plates, diners will also be entertained by traditional Mexican Mariachis. As with all events at the Marriott, the Mexican festival is something you're not going to want to miss.

As I arrived for the launch of the Marriott's Mexican festival last Thursday, I was surprised to find that the ambassador to Mexico was there! I had to remind myself that the Marriott always shoots for the greatest authenticity for the flavors they represent (and who is a greater expert on Mexican flavor than the ambassador).

As the Mariachis played in the background, we were given a brief sampling of the plates that will be available this coming weekend. The main dish served was a warmed corn tortilla with meat, frijoles, and no shortage of guacamole.

There is always something immensely satisfying about eating Mexican food, and unfortunately there are too few Mexican restaurants here in Peru. Essentially, I'm pretty satisfied with some simple chips and guacamole as I think it evokes memories of no end of football parties. However, the JW Marriott's version combines that playful exuberance with the elegance of fine dining (a good combination).

In addition to the more traditional plates, there were also a wide variety of "fusion" type dishes available. One shrimp and tomato sampler served in a small cup was especially tasty. Wash it all down with a few margaritas, and you've got the makings for a wonderful time.

The festival is S/. 95 for adults S/. 50 for children and takes place From Thursday the 17th to Saturday the 19th at 8 PM in La Vista Restaurant in the JW Marriott hotel. If you have not yet experienced the Vista Hotel, then you're also in for a treat as this restaurant offers a tremendous ocean view.
