Peru's singer Arturo "Zambo" Cavero died today in Lima

One of the most popular Peruvian creole music singers, Arturo “Zambo” Cavero, passed away today in Lima, due to a general sepsis which was aggravated by his morbid obesity.

He died at the Edgardo Rebagliati Hospital, where he had been in coma in ICU since October 5th, receiving antibiotic and support treatment.

The doctors had anticipated yesterday that there was nothing else they could do to help him, since the medicines he was receiving were not working anymore.

The artist could not recover from a septic shock, multiple organ disfunction, lung deterioration, and coagulation problems, according to an EsSalud doctor's report.

“Zambo” Cavero, which became famous years ago with the creole waltz “Contigo Perú”, was born on November 21st, 1940, in an alley known as “La Banderita Blanca” (The Little White Flag”) located in the block 11 of Abancay Avenue, in the historic Lima downtown.

Some of his most acclaimed folk performances are “Olga,” “Mala Mujer,” “Cariño Bonito,” Ruperta,” and “Cada domingo a las 12,” among many others. tini, Alto Jilahuata and Buena Vista (Puno), among others in Amazonas, Ayacucho, Cusco and Huánuco.

Cavero had been honored by te OAS in 1987, along with other remarkable Peruvian musicians.
