After mourning during the whole weekend, Peru said goodbye to one of its most popular and emblematic popular music singers, Arturo “Zambo” Cavero, in a long funeral that included official state honors.

Cavero's funeral started on Friday, at the Peru's National Museum, where hundreds of Peruvians gathered to pay its tribute to this artist: even the Panamanian salsa singer Rubén Blades (who had arrived in Lima to perform a concert) attended the funeral. They had been friends since their youth.

Today, the coffin with Cavero's remains was took in a large procession to Lima's Main Square, with a previous stop at the Las Nazarenas temple, where the “Lord of the Miracles” fraternity members paid their homage, too.

Cavero was a fervent, lifelong devotee of "The Lord of Miracles" also known as "the Black Christ."

Afterwards, a large crowd estimated in 2,000 people awaited and applauded the arrival of Arturo Cavero's funeral procession in the Main Square.

Some people dismayed, overwhelmed by their grief, while many persons had travelled from provinces only to be present in their idol's funeral.

Arturo Cavero received official state honors; The Mayor of Lima and President Alan García also paid official homage to his memory.

Peruvian President Alan Garcia presented the Order of the Sun of Peru, the highest national award, to his friend and great Creole singer Arturo Cavero.

"By recognizing that high human dignity that you gave us as an example, I present you this Grand Cross of Peru's Order of the Sun," said President Alan Garcia. Then, Cavero's remains were took to Peru's Congress, where another ceremonial homage was prepared.

Finally, Arturo “Zambo” Cavero was laid to rest at Jardines de la Paz Cemetery, located in Lima's La Molina district, where he was buried at 2:30pm.
