Jesús Tapia, member of the Tomodachi Karate Club from San Juan de Miraflores, achieved his greatest desire: the
karate world title, after a long journey to Eger City in Hungary.
The young Peruvian reached the top of the world at the 17th Karate Shotokan "Gichin Funakishi" World Championship.
Eger witnessed, beginning October 10th, the lonely Peruvian competitor's efforts and competitive quality, who fought tenaciously on Hungarian soil to show the quality of Peruvian karate.
Jesús Tapia comes from a big family of karate lovers: Carmen Tapia won two Gold medals and the title of Panamerican Champion in individuals and team at Rio de Janeiro, Brasil; Rita Tapia was runner-up at the Panamerican championship at San José in Costa Rica; Jesús was second at the Internacional at Columbus, Ohio (USA); Carmen won again at Curazao (Netherlands and Antilles) and was the Panamerican Champion at Maracaibo, Venezuela, as well as brother Jesús Antonio, Panamerican Champion also at Venezuela; Rita Tapia was runner-up in Brasil, and Carmen and Rita along teammate Patrycia Arana were runners-up in Canada.
