South Korea and Peru reached an agreement in some of the most polemic issues, including rules of origin, during the fourth round of talks for their
Free Trade Agreement (FTA), according to South Korea's Foreign Affairs Ministry.
The five-day-long talks, held in Lima, ended with an agreement on various issues, such as dispute settlement and government procurement, among others; but both countries failed to narrow differences on things like tariff concessions, fishery cooperation and norms for accessing the market.
Both countries aim to have the final document ready before Alan Garcia's visit to Korea, scheduled for next month.
This FTA is expected to boost bilateral economic ties, as well as provide South Korea with an expanded opportunity to invest in Latin America.
In 2008, bilateral trade topped US $1.62 billion.
