Mototaxis, which actually are three-wheeled motorcycles with a light tent as a ceiling, are very commonly used vehicles in Peru, even for public transportation for short distances.
A group of Youngsters from England, Ireland, Italy, Belgium, New Zealand and the US participate in the “
Junkey mototaxi,” which takes place for the first time in South America.
The ride, which has been partially sponsored by Huancayo's Municipality, seeks to raise funds to afford social projects, in this case harelip operations.
Each team, formed by 2 people, has the challenge to raise $1.500.
They plan
to cross the Andes in a 4,000 kilometers journey, starting in Huancayo (Junín), and finally to arrive to Asunción, Paraguay's capital, in some 14 days.
The journey includes Bolivia and Argentina.
