150 women die every year due to domestic violence in Peru

An average of 150 women are killed by their partners every year in Peru, because of jealous or due to suspicions of infidelity, and the domestic violence cases have increased too, acording to Peruvian authorities.

Peru's Ministry of Women and Social Development (MIMDES) issued a report stating that the situation is "dramatic" for many women who have chosen to remain silent and do not report acts of violence committed against them.

The report warns that this attitude has caused the murder of 16 women so far in 2009.

However, this figure does not include data from several remote provinces.

The MIMDES' report also says that only 45 women survived this year to attempts of “femicide.” MIMDES strongly encourages all the victims of domestic violence to report these cases to the services provided by Women's Emergency Center (EMC) where they will receive free legal advice, as well as psychological and social counseling.

This number is way to low (though any number is way to high)

I believe the number to be much higher here in Peru.

Feminist propaganda.

Does not even mention how many men die per year of domestic violence.

In the USA women right groups push biased, false statistics.  They do it to create jobs and money for Women Study college graduates and to push women's rights - abortion, divorce (child support, assets), more breast cancer "awareness" money.

What they always seem to ignore is that men have it hard too.  Like the above poster wrote, women/feminists always leave out men's statistics for violence, health, death, job discrimination, loss in a divorce, etc. in America too.  Now here in Peru!!!!

Typical women's rights message "man bad, woman victim"

What they did in the UK is pass domestic violence laws to get the man out of the house (with the Order of Protection) during the divorce.  This "temporary" situation of the man being seperated from his child(ren) and stuff is written as a permenant order by the divorce judges.

Men are less like to report domestic violence.

terri and chris, I have to say you must be incredibly ignorant if you think the number of women who kill men in domestic violence reaches even 5% of the reverse, that is not a "feminist false statistic" but a very documentable fact either in Peru or the USA.

It is pretty obvious you have some personal issues about woman and even though it is very clear that there is a very small minority of women that abuse this fact, as there is a small minority of people that abuse any situation.  However, to deny that it exists is pretty ignorant in the 21st century and clearly show you do not need facts to form your opinions.

Where I come from, people who choose to ignore facts to form their opinions are called liars.

terri, these statistics come from MIMDES which is as far away from feminism as you can possibly be. women's issues are not the same as feminism.

i am sure there are men that die as a result of domestic violence as well (although i am not sure if domestic violence towards men is as endemic and prevalent as that towards women. do you have any sources on this?)
however, this fact--and the fact that it's not mentioned here--doesn't invalidate the claim or the statistics published by MIMDES. in any case, something should be done to combat both, but it is hardly surprising that a ministry of women would focus only on women's rights (as problematic as it sounds).

The Key factor left out here is that most all domestic violance is caused directly by alcoholism and alcohol consumpiton, Violance, death, and damage due to Violations of young children included.
That is what is going on for long years in all cultures due to the masive promtion of alcohol consumption.
Now what is being done about this?  Arguing that it is man or woman to blame is a mute point, when it is the booze, beer, wine, Pisco, canazo, chicha,  that is propagating domestic violance.

Of course you have to speculate on theis statitic as feminists always leave out statitcs about men who are also victims.  You're a typical fmeinist man hater, woman worshipper.  Keep sprating the hate.  man hater

Your statment is false, plain and simple as statistics are NOT compled by these so called femenist organizations, but by law enforcement.

I wonder why you feel the need to lie to make your point?  It shows you have no value or honor in this discussion, Liars are not respected or trusted.
