Peru’s President, Alan García, confirmed he will return to the country 24 hours earlier than expected due to the recent case of espionage in favor of Chile, that led to the arrest of Peru’s Air Force NCO Victor Ariza Mendoza.
Garcia also told the reporters outside the hotel where the Peruvian delegation is staying at in Singapore that he has canceled the previously scheduled interview with his Chilean counterpart, Michelle Bachelet, because he prefers to study the situation carefully in Peru before making a decision.
Peru has called Ambasador Carlos Pareja for consultations, and the Production Minister, Mercedes Araoz, has canceled her official visit to Santiago, where she was to explain the Peruvian proposal to reduce the military purchases in South America.
The Peruvian president said he will return to Lima on Monday.
