Peru's Police will start a new strategy for its Summer Surveillance Campaign: police officers will use paragliders to fly over Lima beaches, in order to check on the safety of their public.

This was announced by Police General Oswaldo Hernández Revollé, Head of the Seventh Territorial Direction, who also said that this is only one of the innovations innovations included in the Summer Campaign release 2010 to be started this Friday November 27th.

The PNP Aquatic Salvage Unit is a section integrated by 500 officers, with 15 women, who work in more than 90 beaches and 30 public swimming pools of the capital.

hey i realy like cops but i don't see the point of flying over head and not being able to do anything about the things u see, i mean get a couple of cameras in key positions as simple as that, this is just a waste of time, manpower, and money.

This just doesn't sound like a good idea. Are these 'gliding cops' going to be in communication with officers on the ground? If not, they would only be able to watch and not really be able to help anyone.  It seems like using telescopes or sights from the top of the bluff would be more effective.  How much can the cops really see while gliding around?

Peru is such one messed up country.  Lots of taxes and nothing to show for it.  If the politicians didn't have their hands in the till there would be money to buy helicopters instead of sending the PNP up on these kites.

They would have radios to ground units.
