Peru: Places to send donations for people in Cusco

Foto: Andrew DareAt present, rains in Cusco have left more than 23,000 homeless people and more than 37,000 affected people; more than 16,000 hectares of crops have been damaged, and  nine bridges collapsed.

One week after the storms started, several districts and towns in Cusco have not received any help yet.

One of the most needed things is machinery to remove the rubble; construction materials to rebuild the destroyed houses, and sump pumps to get rid of the water.

People need things like blankets, matresses, tents, water, non-perishable foods, candles, warm clothes, plastics, medicines, items for personal hygiene and and big plastic bags to sort out and pack the donations.

Donations can be taken to these places:

Rebuilding in the flood plain is not very clever. Too many people living in the flood plain or where landslides are apt to occur is simply an invitation to suffering from future natural disasters. Meteorological stations to tell you that flooding is about to take place may save lives, but will not help much with the destruction of property & infrastructure [railroads, etc.] when the flooding or landslides occur.  Then Peru will depend on "ayuda" from abroad to rebuild where people should not be living in the first place.
What has happened to the locals at Agua Calientes is, in my humble opinion, the result of too many people moving into the area in order to live off tourism.

Our Foundation, Spirits of the Earth Foundation is accepting donations via paypal at peru@spiritsoftheearth.com and will be wiring 100% of all donations to Niños del Arco Iris Foundation.

Please check us out, we are genuine and want to offer more options. Most of the time to wire money to Peru cost an average of $40 that in it self is a donation. So if people has to pay wiring fee to send money it might stop them from participating. WE need to make easy for every one.

So please talk with Kusi Seminario - I am working with him to support
Niños del Arco Iris Foundation.

GRACIAS --- THANKS! Vera Lopez, president of Spirits of the Earth Foundation
