Juan Picon, the mayor of Tingo Maria, reported that
hundreds of families have been affected by the floods caused by the Huallaga River, in Huanuco region.
As the national meteorologic service had forecasted, the Huallaga River waters surpassed 4.50 metres high, due to the torrential rains that have been falling in Huanuco.
According to Picon, floods in several towns along the Huallaga river have left extensive damage, as well as blocked some sections of the Central Road.
The Mayor said that, despite the contingency plans, the magnitude of this emergency has exceeded all expectations, and they only have 60 tents to shelter the families who have lost their homes.
Regional authorities, police officers and army will start the evacuation of residents, starting with minors, elderly and most vulnerable people, since more floods may occur.
