The popular sports journalist
Emilio Laferranderie, aka “El Veco,” died in Lima at 78 years of age, after suffering a cardiac arrest in a local private hospital, reported local media.
“El Veco” started his long career in his home country, Uruguay, and then continued it in Peru, where he published the books "Oído a la música” (Listen to the music) and “Fútbol es pasión” (Soccer is passion), publications that reunite his texts and profiles.
He arrived in Lima in August 1982, and after four months working for “El Comercio” newspaper, he received an offer from Panamericana Television, so he decided to stay, along with his family.
His motto was “Oído a la música,” a phrase that he created and made popular repeating it just before sharing news and commentaries.
"El Veco" was a columnist of El Comercio and was the host of the program “El Show del Veco” on RadioProgramas del Peru (RPP).
