Church "Nuestra Señora de Belén" in Cusco, Peru.
(LIP-wb) — Seven paintings on linen of the Cusqueña School and several silver pieces of the main altar were robbed from the church "Nuestra Señora de Belén" in the ancient Incan capital of Cusco, Peru.
This was announced on Thursday by the priest of the parish, Nicanor Acuña.
“I must say with great sorrow and a heavy heart that Cuzqueñan culture has been depredated in such an enormous way", he said.
Among the valuables that went missing is a painting of Señor de Huanca, two silver statuettes with angel figures and two old pictures “that were declared as cultural world heritage”.
Acuña said the robbed pieces have “an incalculable value”.
The priest explained that the delinquents had entered the church at dawn through an old wooden sidedoor.
