Travel to Huancayo from Lima by train

Train service to Huancayo
(LIP-jl) – The rail company, Ferrocarril Central Andino (FCA), announced its new rail service to the city of Huancayo from downtown Lima.

The Monserrate Station was officially presented yesterday and will be open to the public beginning on Thursday, December 7, taking advantage of the long holiday weekend in Peru.

The new service is tentatively scheduled for 20 trips during 2007, with each trip beginning and ending in the Monserrate Station in downtown Lima.

This new service permits an alternative for many that are growing suspect of Peru’s internal bus system. Just recently, 50 passengers died near the border of Peru and Bolivia when the bus they were traveling on fell into an abyss approximately 500 meters deep. <<read more about this story>>

Diana Tamashiro, General Manager of Tourism for FCA, said this new service has all of the comforts one would expect, with the addition of breathtaking views of the Andes. The addition of this service will impulse the development of tourism and the local economies of Junín and the adjacent departments.

Huancayo is located in the central highlands in the Junín Region, at altitude of approximately 3,271 meters (10,731 ft) and is considered to be the cultural and commercial center of the entire central Peruvian Andes area.

Some interesting comments.  Am also interested in the train trip.  How about living in Peru giving usable info, such as phone numbers, how to do these trips and who to contact?

All these comments about the train are great, but when and how often is that train leaving from Lima and back from Huancayo? I usued to take it 30 years ago, it left early in the morning, but now it is pretty vague as far as schedules go.
Than you for letting me know.
