(LIP-jl) -- According to a report from Andina News Agency, Peruvian national Daniel Perez Cueva, 21, was among the 33 victims that were killed by a gunman during yesterday's shooting rampage at Virginia Tech University in the United States.
Perez lived in the United States for approximately 7 years and he was studying International Relations at the University.
Perez's father, Flavio Perez, indicated he last spoke to his son a week ago.
"He was doing very well and he was happy," he said.
Aida Cueva, Daniel Perez's aunt, has asked the United States Embassy in Peru to issue a humanitarian visa so Flavio Perez can immediately travel to the U.S. and bid farewell to his deceased son.
Yesterday's shooting
was the deadliest school shooting incident in U.S. history, with Virginia Tech President Charles Steger calling the killings "a tragedy of monumental proportions."
U.S. news media reports inform the shooter, Cho Seung-hui, a 23-year-old English major from South Korea
, was dressed "almost like a boy scout."
"He just stepped within five feet of the door and just started firing," said Erin Sheehan, who was in one of the Norris Hall classrooms where the second shooting incident took place.
