(LIP-jl) -- Peruvian President Alan Garcia can now pack his bags as Peruvian executive authorities approved the president's trip to the United States, scheduled for Sunday April 22 through Wednesday April 25.

Garcia, who was officially invited by United States President George W. Bush, will promote the ratification of the free trade agreement between the United States and Peru.

Aside from meeting with U.S. President Bush, the Peruvian leader is scheduled to get together with 40 U.S. Senators from both the Democratic and Republican political parties.

Many from Peru's political arena see this as a golden opportunity to spark the FTA ratification process, which has not seen any major breakthroughs during the past couple of months.

Peru's Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Mercedes Araoz indicated her team is working around the clock to ensure President Garcia's trip to Washington D.C. us a successful one.

"We are working on the issues together," said Araoz.

Peruvian authorities have also authorized Peruvian Chancellor Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde to accompany Garcia on his trip.

Peruvian Defense Minister will take over the Chancellor's duties while he is with the president.
