(LIP-jl) -- Thanks in large part to a much more efficient exporting platform, Peru's export rates have been registering healthy increases during the past couple of years. According to Lima's Chamber of Commerce (CCL) Peruvian exports to Europe are expected to surpass US$4 billion by the end of the year.
According to a report published by Peru's Andina News Agency, exports from traditional product sectors, chiefly mining and fishing, account for more than 67% of Peru's 2007 exported products.
In relation to the European Union, Peruvian exports grew by 21.7% during the first four months of the year compared to figures registered during the same period in 2005.
The Andean nation's January through April 2007 total exports are valued at more than US$1.2 billion.
Spain was Peru's largest importer during the period with US$258 million, while Italy became Peru's second largest European export destination with US$243 during the same period.
Additionally the CCL qualified the upcoming trade talks between the European Union and the Andean Community as 'vitally important' to Peru's interests.
