(LIP-ir) -- Peru's government is to release a list of all of the bus services that have caused fatal accidents or been involved in one.
Peru's Prime Minister, Jorge del Castillo has announced that this is being done so that passengers and customers will know and have an idea about a company's accident record when they are choosing their bus service.
"We are going to publish a record of those companies so that people do not get on the buses of these discredited companies," said del Castillo. He added that many companies use "vehicles that kill" without considering the consequences.
Peru's Premier also affirmed that he agreed with President Alan Garcia's plan to impose penal charges and prison time to the owners of bus services that do not follow state security regulations and knowingly put their passengers' lives in danger.
Del Castillo added that Peru's regional governments should closely supervise the inter-province bus services, making sure they comply with all the rules and regulations set by the state and making sure they follow the standards in the "Zero Tolerance" program that was set by the Ministry of Transportation.
218 people have died while 1,515 have been injured as a result of 259 accidents on inter-province buses this year.
