Señor de Luren Church in Ica, Peru Collapses - Statue Spared

(LIP-ir) -- The Señor de Luren (Lord of Luren) Church in Ica, Peru was one of the many building which was affected by the 7 degree earthquake that hit Peru last night. The earthquake struck as a religious service was in progress last night.

Townspeople in Ica are stating that the fact that the Lord of Luren, a statue of Jesus Christ crucified, was not damaged as nothing less than a miracle. It was reported that despite the collapse of a pilar and a the destruction of one of the alters, the statue of the Lord of Luren was not damaged.

Townspeople can not explain how the statue was undamaged and remained standing during and after the earthquake. When inside the church one can only see rubbish and an open Bible which the priest was using during a mass when the earthquake struck.

A similar report has been given by townspeople from another church, the Capilla de Socorrro (Help Chapel) which is also located in Ica, Peru. The chapel was completely destroyed, yet townspeople have stated that the statues of the Virgen de Socorro and Cristo Redentor were the only things saved from the chapel.

It was also reported that despite the fact that there is no electricity in Ica, the bulbs which illuminate the Virgen del Socorro are still lit.

Ica, Pisco, Chincha and Cañete are the regions which have been hardest hit by the earthquake in Peru. Chincha was just 25 miles from the earthquakes epicenter, while Lima was 95 miles away.

What a bunch of crap. The stupid statue was saved because it was made of a hard durable material and enclosed in a protective area. According to the BBC, "200 people are buried in the rubble of a church which collapsed during mass", but the F**kin statue is more important right. Demented Idiots

I cant believe what I am reading. More than 500 people died and they are talking about miracles because statues were saved?

What can one say more about human naivety. Consolation should be found in doing something for the community, taking care that something like that doesnt happen again and not believing in this kind of miracles.

How sad this story made me.

I am devastaded of the news in Peru, although I wasn't born there I have family in Ica and wish to know if anyone has ideas on how I can locate the names of those that have been killed in the earthquake. My Uncle is religious and I believe he was at Senor de Luren church on that day,regardless he live a few blocks away and I am heart broken like I always am when i hear of news like this that happens around the world but now I have a particular face in my mind and heart...my uncle who is a sweet little old man and lived to help others. thank you for reading this, i can't sleep and i'm surfing the news to get info since there are no phone lines in Ica now, i can only wait while someone i love might be sleeping in the streets as i go to a warm bed or worse things could have happened. May God help all those that seek his help.

Hello everyone concerned about the tragedy in Peru. i was on another site, and got lots of help regarding what was happening. I was hoping for news of my loved ones in Peru, and thankfully have heard they are safe. My heart goes out to everyone inPeru and round the world.
My grateful thanks for the help i received, though it was not on this site, I hope the wonderfully kind people read this. It just goes to show, really, wars are not needed, because there are so many many kind people everwhere. Hope this makes sense, but we are all world people aren't we?

It is okay to have freedom of speech, but you should respect the other people's believes. There are some people who are happier having a faith and believing in a spiritual life and they must also be respected and not insulted. The church collapsed because the material (I'm an architect) which it was built of was not strong enough and because it did not have the seismic reinforcements. The rules for earthquake resistant buildings have been published in Peru in the seventies and the church was built centuries ago! The people who built that church did not know to build with these rules. A hospital which was done in brick some years ago also collapsed! there you can blame the government and the municipalities for not supervising that the rules are accomplished.
You are so arrogant, try to respect other people!

Speaking of faith. A lot of people do not have much faith in anything that the BBC reports about these days. BBC= Broadcasting British Communism. "Remember, we need too have constant camara viewing at the gas pumps to cut of the gas supplies for all of those tax cheats!" We need too have an American style Tea Party over here in the Thames. I heard about all of the camaras that the Government is installing over there. This sh-t is right out of george Orwells 1984. I bet people back then thought that Orwell was full of it too. It's sad that this tragedy in Peru has been the spark for some people to post ignorant, anti-Christian diatribes. There have been many intellectual Christians down through the ages and one could fill pages and pages with quotes supporting faith in God. Even many of those quoted by (sic) "Smart Men denounce Christianity" have also written in favor of religion: Aristotle, Lincoln, and Gandhi to name three. Recognizing One above us keeps us humble as a society. Atheistic and agnostic societies, on the other hand, such as the former Soviet Russia, have brought nothing but famine and terror to their people. God will bring comfort to the humble people of Peru in this difficult time of sorrow and hopefully also will those of us with the means to do so.

After the earthquake, the comments here were kind, helpful, and there was a feeling that everyone, no matter where, or whom, felt for the people caught up with the tragedy. Pity it could not have stayed that way. No matter what anyone's beliefs, or none, there is no need for profanity. AT ALL!

Please! it is so important for us all to pray for those who are going to die, and for those who have died, and those who are missing!
When we are before Him, our Creator, we will experience a movement of Love through our entire being. Oh! the immense, unconditional Love for each one of His children.
No one likes to suffer. It has become a no-no concept to most all. It is Satan, the haterful one himself, who incites us to fear suffering and it is Satan who makes use of suffering to make us weak.
But suffering is necessary to purify and liberate us from what the evil in us all - those who have prepared with inner peace - daily suffering is less painful and even joyful when offered to Jesus the Crucified for the salvation of all souls.
Nature is in convulsions! Thousands die suddenly without warning all over the earth - Do not make the mistate that it is God who hates us and causes such tragedy - it is Satan, The Evil One, and right now he is trying to destroy God's creation - the earth and His children - He's in a hurry to sweep us as many of us to hell as possible before his time and power is finished!
This is serious stuff we are all facing, my brothers and sisters. We are all God's children and He wants us with Him in Heaven, not with Satan in Hell. It is our choice to decide when and where we will spend Eternity.
God IS Love and He loves each one of us immensely and with sublime tenderness, so much so that He will not force us to come to Him as slaves - we choose for ourselves - and believe me, this is the time to say yes to The Love. This way He can begin the healing process of our souls and bodies with movements of love and peace and strength!
Now is the time to prepare - not when disaster is upon us.
We must seriously pray for our brothers and sisters who've given in to the slavery of The Evil One, who despises each and every person ever born!

Never in my 70yrs have I heard such language...yes I do believe we are in the ends of time...like those that quoted the Bible, but we need to pray and pray w/o stopping...of course we need to go w/our daily life and eat and sleep and work...but as much as we can we need to keep our mind and our lips in prayer...pray the Holy Rosary, go to Adoration and kneel in front of His Real Presence...if possible to to daily Mass and Holy Communion and offer up all our suffering for people like those that wrote such ugly nasty bad words against the Son of God...they do not know much about the Roman Catholic Church...they do a lot of good but they do not bust about it, we do not need to, God is the only one that needs to know, and He knows and sees everything...being a Roman Catholic is not easy, Obedience and Offering it up is one of our #1...just like the sun gives life to the plants and flowers...etc...Faith/Believe in the Real Presence Body and Blood Soul and Divinity at Adoration in front of the Blessed Sacrament gives us Graces the Food for our Souls...and although the pain and suffering, our Cross does not go away it becomes lighted because He helps us to carry it...remember always He said it..."pick up your Cross and follow Me"...we are in exile and on our way back to Home...remember He knew us before we were born...how beautiful

Reading the comments so far, I can only say that to love those who hate you, to pray for those who persecute you, is what Jesus said. I am a sinner who prays for sinners. With prayers for all who did suffer and are suffering in Peru and the whole wide world! Ditto for all who have expressed their love of God and neighbor; praise be Jesus, Mary, and Joseph -- now and forever. When I was young and proud of my personal talents I walked away from the Roman Catholic Church; out of the blue and before many personal tragedies struck I was called back and am now so grateful for having returned before my children matured. Catholics are not just called to reason and faith; but, also action: Ora et Labora (Pray and Work). For those who may be interested: EWTN (Dish Network channel 261) provides for a variety of programs some of which appeal to the spiritual side and others the very intelectual side interesting to both Catholics and NON-Catholics (even agnostics and athiests). The Journey Home Program on EWTN ( see: http://www.ewtn.com/journeyhome/index.asp ) is particularly interesting since most of the guests have lived lives as ardent non-Catholics, some vehimenently anti-Christian, and even as Drug Addicts, Gangsters, and plain Criminals (consider well known Father John Corappi). "Thank God" -- for the terrors of this world do not end -- our Lord Jesus Christ was wrongfully accused, sentenced and crucified -- but, He rose from the dead after freeing those detained in hell -- "Thank God" for the little miracles He gives us & that we can recognize them -- the statues of Jesus & Mary evidently survived for our benefit not for God's -- "Thank God" we are free to comment and to pray for our fellow man -- I have read that what the devil dislikes most after Our Blessed Mother, Mary Ever Virgin, is the following verse: Psalm 67:2 Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered, let those who hate Him flee before His face. This is from the Catholic Bible -- can be found in the King James also at Psalm 68:1. Memorize it, post it in your homes, "Thank God in all things" -- He is our Creator & Savior -- God Bless those throughoout the world as they suffer for Christ's sake -- Amen.

I just realized that if the atheists/blashemers had not written their hateful words, we, lovers of Jesus, His Mother and Church, we wouldn't be sharing our Faith and love with and for each other! A prayer of thanks for them.

Anyway, I would like to clarify my point: 'When we are before Him, we all will experience an immense movement of Love within our beings. Oh! the immense, unconditional Love Jesus has for each and everyone, blasphemers as well as Christian/Catholics - all children belong to God. Whether they accept Him or not is not for us to speculate - Jesus will envelope Himself (The Love) around each one individually. This is called the Great Purification or Illumination of Consciences, that many mystics and visionaries have warned us would soon come.
Once our lives are seen before us, and how we caused suffering to Jesus by our sins, we will have the chance and choice to correct ourselves by going to the Sacraments, esp. Confession. We will say yes to The Love.

But here is the RUB! Those in a sinful state will see their sins also; what each of them caused such suffering to the Savior who is before them. Oh! what shame, what bitterness, what torrents of suffering pains they will have to endure in every part of their body - before Jesus' loving Face. They have been without love for so long, they will want to run away to hide from Jesus Crucified, but they will not be able to.
Because of people who pray for souls continuously, some will ask forgiveness from Jesus, but others will be too prideful and bitter to be sorry and ask forgiveness. These poor souls will say NO the Jesus! They will have chosen Evil and death over Love and Life. This is awful, and not God's Will for any of His children! But He forces no one, and respects their free will.
This is precisely why we must pray for all of God's children, the devil worshippers, murderers, blasphemers, abortionists...all the children that we like to speak against.
And what will we say when we are before our tender, sweet Love, Jesus? We must not judge anyone of these pitiful brothers and sisters, "but for the Grace of God, so goeth I," but pray continually for them in the Communion of Saints.
Pride comes from Satan. Be careful, my brothers and sisters in Christ. Satan will get the upper hand if we look down on any of God' children - he wants us to hate one another.
Be at peace and ask for strength through our loving tender Virgin
Mother. She will take us by the hand and teach us how to be beings of love as God created us to be, in The School of The Love.

Lo que sucedio' en Peru no es unica. En muchas partes del mundo , incluso en Louisiana despues del huracan Katrina, muchos edificios fueron derumbados y destruidos. Tambien en asia despues del temblor que causo' un tsunami, igelsias fueron inundados. Pero, el tabernaculo, statues of Jesus and Mary were left standing with little to no damage time and again. A miraculous staute of Our Lady was swept away to the sea in the aftermath of the tsunami in India but was returned by the waves with no damage. In Nueva Orleans- the statue of Jesus was the only standing object in an area that was devastated. A sign of hope for the inhabitants of those many places around the world that the Lord and Our Mother are with us.

Dear Brothers and Sisters from Purgatory, including those doing their purgatory here on earth as earthbound souls, I pray to you, in the name of Jesus to pray for us sinners, the loss and those on their way to hell unless our Lord intervenes as in the case of Howard Storm. Amen
