Pisco, Peru – Lack of Supplies Slows Down Help in Pisco and Other Areas Hit by Earthquake Wednesday Evening

A trip to Pisco that would normally take 3 and a half hours, can now take up to 8 due to the damaged highways.

(LIP-ck) This evening our colleague Kenneth reported that very little supplies were arriving to and distributed in Pisco, neither to those in need nor those working to help.

“There are still many, many people who don't have shelter, blankets, food or clean water and many children have diarrhea, especially due to lack of clean water”, says Kenneth.

It appears that all the help the government confirms to have been sent to Pisco and other areas hit by the earthquake Wednesday evening isn’t arriving, either due to bad road conditions and traffic or lack of management and experience to distribute these supplies arriving from Lima and other places.

According to other Peruvian media, most help seems to be focused on Pisco, so it probably won't surprise anyone that most other cities and small villages in the valleys still haven’t received any help, as traffic is stopped by huge cracks and rocks in the road everywhere.

Most cities in the southern regions of Pisco, Ica and Chincha are still without electricity and no one seems to know when this will be established.

A team of special firefighters arrived earlier to Pisco and is now checking for survivors in the ruins of “The Embassy” - the 6 story hotel, which collapsed during the earthquake.

Two bodies have been recovered, but confirmed information states that as many as 14-15 bodies may be discovered in the rubble in the next 24 hours.

I just want to add a heartfelt mesage of sympathy to all those in the area who have and are suffering.

My wife and I drove through Ica, Huacachina, Paracas, Pisco, Chincha and other towns and villages in the area in our Motorcaravan last year and met nothing but friendship and welcome wherever we camped, shopped, ate or just met people

We are both saddened by the disaster
