Ica, Peru: Pisco's Electricity to Return to Normal in 20 Days


(LIP-ir) -- Peru's Vice Minister of Energy, Pedro Gamio, has stated that 20 percent of electrical services have been reestablished in the Province of Pisco, Region of Ica. He reported that within 20 days, public lighting services could be fully operational.

Pisco Hospital is currently running on a generator. Gamio commented that this is will continue for now but clarified that it is only a temporary service.

"The reconstruction of Pisco will take months, the electrical supply, with respect to public lighting, can reach a normal level within 20 days, this is not the case with houses because the houses would have to be completely rebuilt," stated the vice minister.

On the other hand, Gamio stated that in the Province of Ica, 90 percent of water pumping can be guaranteed because there is electrical energy. All four hospitals are being provided with electricity and public lighting has been restored by 75 percent.

Vice minister Gamio reported that the province of Chincha is receiving 100 percent of its water supply and that public lighting is at 20 percent, while 30 percent of homes have electricity. "In the next 3 days, Chincha will have the majority of its public lighting supplied," stated Gamio.

There is currently a group of 180 people, consisting of engineers, specialists and technicians repairing electrical damages in the affected areas.
