(LIP-ir) -- Late last night, Gustavo Carrión, Chief of Peru's National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) denied the accusations Alberto Fujimori's daughter, Keiko Fujimori had made earlier yesterday that her father was being held in unacceptable conditions.# Fabio V. says :

This poor baby. If I ever go to jail for stealing millions from my country, I wish to be locked up in this same type of, Holding Cell.

Fujimori is guilty of making alliances with corrupt Montesinos et al. Fujimori made secret pacts with the mafia lords and perhaps bribed corrupt politicians. But, he did it all for PERU. From the dirty business he manipulated, he got rid of shining path, he fixed the inflation problem, he built roads, schools, universities, he improved health care. Thanks to Fujimori and his dirty business, the poorest people of Peru saw a light at the end of the tunnel. Rice, sugar, health care: Fujimori provided his poor people with food! Even if he spends the rest of his life in jail - He will always be a hero of the poorest people of Peru. He is the greatest president that Peru has ever had in the past 50 years. Viva el chino Carajo! All the self-righteous, ignorant Peruvians (like myself), all those without sin, peruvians, go ahead and kill your own saviour.

research first....
the only baby here is Garcia who didn't have the gutts to come back and face justice? Did you know that the night before Garcia left Peru a truck unloaded gold form the Reserve Bank in Lima? Godd for Garcia who waited 7 years to come back to Peru so justice can't touch him at all!
........ Pueblo estupido, te mereces el tipo de gobernante que tienes.....

ROCIO. I will be the first to admit the good things that he did for Peru. I have stated this more than once. Yes things are better. Economy is the best that it has ever been. And let us not forget what he did to the Shining Path communistas as you mentioned. All because of Fuji. But, is he deserving of plush acomodations because he has never returned the millions that he took from our country? I think not. It is a reward for criminal activity. Nothing more. I also agree with another posting about Garcia taking money from our country. But we do not not need the Humalas of the world to undermine all that Fuji did in terms of the Shining Path and the ever growing strong economy that we have.

There are strange and ignorant people who think that Presidents ought to be praised and rewarded for doing good things, fools like Rocio who worship a man who was elected to DO HIS JOB.
Governments deserve no praise or rewards other than their paychecks and pensions. In exchange for these they are SUPPOSED to do a good job of running the country. If during his term in office Fujimori improved the country so much as to eliminate poverty, give every citizen a shiny gold house and build a Peruvian moon-base, this is what he damn well should be aiming to do anyway. Give a President a pat on the back and remember him fondly if you will - you've already paid him for his work.
If anything, politians should be jailed for fraud if they don't live up to election promises.

When the demands of the Shining Path were not carried out in terms of releasing other communist brothers from prison, they beheaded some college students that they had kidnaped. President Fujimori sent out a special squad of soldiers to hunt them down. When they were caught, he had them all shot. Some people call this murder. ALOT of us called this justice. And justice it was.

Scientifically speaking, the world is NOT all pink and rose...But let's not forget the innocent people that may have died during the "hunting" of the Shining Path. Some innocent bystanders payed a price they did not deserve, and their families may in fact blame Fujimori for that. Who can blame them? In their minds, Fujimori is to blame. These innocent bystanders are also our Heroes. (e.g., college students)
Having said that, all poor, hungry Peruvians, without rice, medicines and without a future, we all think, Fujimori is the greatest President of the last 50 years.

Yeah he did some really great things, and at the sametime very shady, We paid for him to do his job and at very high costs. I think the people that defend him have nothing to compare him to, because most presidents have been completely useless. Don't loose sight people, that's the problem with Peru, why do people forget so quickly! remember what it was like in 1999-2000 all the turmoil with the tampered elections, and the vladivideos?!?! I don't understand people who just move on so quickly. He will be tried and it should be interesting to see what happens.

Fujimori may be the "greatest president of the last 50 years" but the fact is he still murdered innocent people and robbed Peru. Being a "great president" does NOT make him immune to these charges.
Of course, Alan is another murderer and thief but he is not about to put himself on trial.

He's lucky he has a private cell, let alone his own house. If anything he's being overly pampered. I don't understand why Keiko is helping him stir up even more drama over nothing.

If you support Fujimori, you were simply one of those who were blindfolded, and tricked with the smoke and mirrors ...be afraid of terrorism! we will take care of it! meanwhile stealing from you pockets.... the most hilarious incident was when Fujimori controlled the press during the conflict with Ecuador in 1995, making it seem that Peru won! oh geez...
Also for you ladies don't get divorced in Peru, the law of susana higuchi will guarantee that you get screwed over thanks to Fujimori.
that whole experience was a ROLLO DE PELICULA!

A leader of millions is more than just a job and paycheck. Leaders of the world have the power to create or destroy millions and in some cases billions of lives. They should be feared or praised depending on who they are and always be respected regardless. How many people in this world truely have that kind of power...
# xc says :

AK,
An elected leader of millions has been hired by millions for a period of years in order to run the systems of the country and bring about improvements in these systems. He took the job, like most people take a top job, for ego and a nice salary with perks. In exchange for this, a job he wanted, he is obliged to do his job well. At the very very least he must leave office having maintained everything how it was. At best he should instigate huge improvements.
An elected leader of millions should never be feared, and does not need to be praised. If you have a job, you are supposed to do it well. Should he be respected regardless - of course not. Should he be respected if he does his job well? Sure.
AK, it seems you've been raised in a dictatorship, where do you live where you fear and praise your leader and respect him regardless?

If he dies in jail, if he is convicted, who will be happy? You, stupid mediocre Peruvians.
Lima will dry up in the next couple of decades anyway. Scientists predict awful things for Peru. Go ahead and enjoy the Fujimori-hunting show. You are still facing drought and poverty...even more poverty and disease...Have fun and enjoy.
Fujimori has been your greatest president of the century. But, go ahead and kill him...after all...you have nothing better to do...

It's ludicrous to think praising someone for doing a good job is wrong...regardless if that person is a President or a custodian.Add your comment
Fujimori is the only reason Peru isn't a rouge country today. The corruption from his alliance with Montesinos and the possession of the vladivideos are the only reasons his terms had any effectiveness given the state of the country when he entered. To think the repairs done could've taken place via a normal democracy is short sighted and/or ignorant.
Did people die? Yes. People died in Peru just like people are dying today in Colombia, Iraq, Afghanistan...or any country with there are terrorist within their borders. US Security forces kill innocent Iraqi's while trying to establish a secure environment in Baghdad. War will never look pretty...I don't see why one would expect it too.
I think it would be pretty patheic that the very country Fujimori saved puts him in jail b/c he used the necesary force to fix a very ugly situation he stepped into in 1990. Today if you are out at 3:00 AM, you are probably takings shots of pisco....during the 80's if you were out at 3:00 AM (during curfew), you were risking getting shot by the military.
How quickly people forget the state and the direction the country was heading during the 1980's...
