
(LIP-ir) -- Chey Tae-Won, Chairman of SK Corporation met with Peru's President Alan Garcia today and stated that the corporation had plans in investing US$2 billion in Peru within the next few years.
"I've spoken to the President of the Republic about future negotiations with respect to petrochemicals, which require an investment of US$2 billion," stated the Chairman of SK Corporation. "My company is very interested and after today's meeting we found that they (Peru's government) were also interested."
In a press conference held at Peru's Government Palace today, it was reported that SK Corporation had already invested US$900 million in the transport and exportation of natural gas from Peru's Camisea reserve.
SK works with the Argentinian companies Techint and Pluspetrol as well as with the Algerian company Sonotrach, the American company Hunt Oil, the French company Suez, the Peruvian company Graña and Montero and TGP, the company in charge of building the Camisea gas pipeline.
According to Peru's RPP news, Hann Young Hee, the Ambassador of South Korea and Peru's Minister of Energy and Mining, Juan Valdivia also took part in the meeting which was held with Peru's President and the Chairman of SK Corporation.
It was reported that there was the possibility that two petrochemical plants would be established by SK Corporation.
