Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson Attack Reporters in Cusco, Peru

(LIP-ir) -- Cusco, Peru continues to attract Hollywood stars. On this occasion, Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson arrived to the famous Inca city not only to enjoy its beauty and majesty but also to visit a children's shelter they founded together.

Upon their arrival to Cusco Wednesday afternoon, they headed towards the Paucarpita shelter located in Calca, approximately an hour from the Imperial City. Harrelson and Wilson stayed at the shelter with the 40 children living there for several hours.

The shelter, which used to be the home of writer Clorinda Matto de Turner, is the home to dozens of children that are homeless in the Calca area. The two Hollywood stars fund the program, reported Peru's RPP News.

Although the stars were seen doing good deeds while in Cusco, it was also reported that they lost their cool with reporters Wednesday evening, attacking one and holding another against his will.

Nilo Romero, a cameraman for entertainment program Magaly TeVe was held by Owen Wilson in his room while a cameraman for Channel 5 was attacked by the two actors, reported Peru's La Republica daily. Those attacked have filed police reports against Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson.

In a report written for La Republica daily, Flor Huilca writes that the two Hollywood actors stopped several times to request help from Peru's police, asking them to keep people from following them. When the two stars were approached at a store, they were visibly irritated and once again requested police assistance, writes Huilca.

I think reporters should hound Magaly and all her family for a year to see how she likes it. I'm sure she's/they've got some skeletons in their closets to be exposed to public ridicule, which is how she gets her kicks. Responsible reporting my arse; it's a blend of spite and nosiness that drives her. She just cloaks it all in morality as a pretense to sit in judgment on others. I'm all for freedom of the press when it's real news but her program is sheer tabloid TV.

What a joke.  Asking for police assistance in Peru and expecting that they will do anything?  Yeah, right.  Celebrities better learn to bring their own body guards to Peru because the police here aren't going to do anything, especially if you don't pay them a huge bribe.  The police here can't even take the time to investigate armed children in the streets, let alone protect celebrities from reporters.  Everytime I call the police here in Peru, they never even show up.  Everytime other people I know here call the police for some problem, even armed robbery, they never show up (one time they did come.... 5 days later!).

I am a big supporter of freedom of the press.  That being said, those that stalk stars like preditors stalking their pray go way beyond any ethics a journalist is supposed to maintain.

I am in favor of jail time for harassment and invastion of privacy for paparazzi and tabloid journalists...or I would be if it could be assured that the law would not be abused to incarcerate reportings exposing corruption and the like..

but that could not be done, so I guess we need to let the unethical false journalist enjoy the same freedom the legitimate press holds, but we need to remind them as a society we think they are scum.

They held a photographer against his will?  They shouldn't have done that. They should have beat his sorry ass from Peru to Panama.  Paparrazi are lower than the scum of the earth and deserve any kick in the ass they get.  I say right on Woody and Owen.  Grind the scum balls into the slime they crawled out of!!!!!

I realize that paparazzi aren't popular, but the fact is that if these allegations are true, these two actors assaulted and kidnapped, yes, kidnapped by holding someone through force against their will and there is no excuse for that. If they weren't celebrities think what would happen to them. The fact that they do good works doesn't excuse them.

Marc,
You have a point but they must have been pretty badly provoked to react how they did. And if they weren't celebrities the paparazzi wouldn't have been botheirng them in the first place so the whole thing would never have come up.

marc, yes, you do have a point and none of us have the facts.  I was working under the presumption that I consider much of what the tabloid style paparazzi to do is a form of assult and therefore self defense can be invoked, but that is only a presumption, I do not have the facts of the incident.

Why they get irritated? Paparazzis in Hollywood are 10 times worst than in Peru....and they dont ask for help from the police!

Why were two aggresive males allowed to even visit the orphange anyway, what about the childrens rights it seems a little fishy to me that two men wanted to visit children in another country without friends or family members anyway especially when one of them tried to kill himself a short time earlier feel guilty about something?

Try reading, "The two Hollywood stars fund the program".  In case reading isn't the problem, the word 'fund' indicates that they pay money to support and orphanage and feed the children there.  So obviously they wanted to see that their money was being put to good use.
